Mines started as an idea for an action-horror videogame where the player is the carrier of a virus, and anyone within a 30ft radius of him would instantly mutate into monsters. The goal was to rescue civilians from those already infected without infecting them in process. Symtoms allowed the player to manipulate states of matter granting a fighting chance.
As a comic it also fused with an old fighting game idea leading a fantasy-Shonen battle royale aspect. The main cast are asymptomatic carriers each displaying a different special ability. The abilities and outbreak takes a 'mystery powers' route unraveling overtime, while the action is fast and intense.
Story follows brothers Evan and Owen who become carriers of a virus and unwillingly start an outbreak in their home town. Evan discovers he can transform his saliva into solid mater, while Owen can transform into a gas. The brothers kinship and morality are tested as other carriers dubbed 'Sick Boys' emerge. Among them are those who wish to spin the situation into a grisly game!
