Nope. I think it's a pretty good deal. That's how movie critics were born. Some people are paid to watch movies and complain about them or praise them. Or rarely flip the script and do both.

I'm in the same boat as @rajillustration, as I get older (or rather as soon as I got out of my teens) finding betas and getting them to actually read has been impossible without paying for them. I'm short on cash, so I just end up with nothing. The harder part too is getting them to read stuff that would require context - I can't ask someone to read ch# 50k word count in let alone 300k word count in - there's no context for it and all of their responses are "this doesn't make sense. why is this guy such a jerk?" cause he just got woken up after not being able to sleep for 3 days straight from the previous 5 chapters.

yeah, coming up with payment is quite tough unless you're writing as a living...a lot of us are just hobbyists...
