I'm looking for some reviews on stuff I either (a) don't want to watch for myself or (b) might like to watch, but not so much that I'm willing to dive in blind.
The first is the 3rd (was it the the 3rd?) season of Twin Peaks. I started watching it and got through maybe 4 or 5 episodes before I quit. I just couldn't deal with it. It was a bit too gross (even for Twin Peaks) and the plot wasn't moving fast enough for my taste.
The whole thing kinda felt like that one episode from the original run where Agent Cooper is lying on the floor bleeding out from a gunshot wound and that whackjob bellhop or whatever is just kind of standing there talking to him about nothing for 10 minutes instead of getting the man some freaking help. It makes you want to repeatedly slam your face on a table or something, like "PLEASE. GET. ON. WITH. IT. THIS. STOPPED. BEING. FUNNY. TWO. MINUTES. AGO. NOW. YOU'RE. JUST. WASTING. MY. TIME!!!"
Part of me was like, "Perhaps that's the feeling the director wanted to invoke in the audience...that feeling of impatience and frustration...perhaps I should be analyzing and appreciating this instead of getting angry..."
But a larger part of me was like, "BS. Life is short; college is already hellish. Why should I waste the little free time I have watching something that feels more like work than entertainment? If all I'm getting from this show is boredom, confusion, and disgust, it's not worth it anymore." So I quit.
...Nevertheless, I am a bit curious about how everything went down. Enough to want to hear about it from someone who actually saw the whole thing. ^^;
Another show I'm curious about is the new Twilight Zone. ^^ As someone who's a huge fan of the original and hasn't watched any of the other incarnations, the thought of diving into it is a bit scary for me. Plus, the 'reviews' (more like opinions) I've seen so far are SO mixed. Some people hate it based on twisted notions of what TZ should be; some people honestly think it's not very good. Some people like it and think they're doing a good job so far; some people drool and gush over every new trailer. I dOn'T kNoW wHaT tO ThInK
That and, shows like The Twilight Zone are actually pretty hard to balance. There's often some kind of social commentary involved, and the line between 'eye-opening' and 'preachy' is pretty thin. ._. And in this day and age, I don't need 'preachy'. I really don't. The horrific reality of how human beings are currently destroying themselves is already shoved down my throat every time I dare to step outside my little bubble of fantasy and homework; I don't need anyone to explain it to me in a thinly-veiled allegory involving aliens or whatever. Just the title of that episode 'Not All Men' makes me shudder...
^That's why I'm scared to try it. But I won't deny the possibility that it could be as well-written and suspenseful as the better episodes of the original series. I'm willing to give it a go...as long as someone will give me an idea of what to expect...
Anyway, those are my requests. Feel free to ask for reviews of reboots you're interested in. I hope I can help somebody out; I've seen a few in my time: Lost in Space, for one (I LOVED it; S2 PLEASE) and a couple of cartoons.
