How Did You Find Paying Customers through Ads?

Hey, guys! I never asked this question before, but how were any of you guys able to find paying customers for your books on third-party websites like Amazon? I'm conducting research as just advertising through Meta or Google Ads is not enough; from experience, only at least 1% of viewers respond to my ads, and they were often not paying customers. For free stuff like my work on Tapas, or apps on Google Play Store, said 1% of viewers do interact with my products.

Also, I have a feeling that my ads didn't always reach my targeted audiences or demographics, based on my book plots and genres.

Do you have stuff published on Amazon?

I don't have data to support this, but I noticed that if your work is published on well-known commerce sites such as Kobo, KDP/Amazon, and Google Play, they do better with ads than if your work is on a free-to-read site or some lesser known paid site.
