How do YOU draw backgrounds?

when i can, i use the 3d models in clip, and photo refs when i can find one. in this page i was using a 3d model for the room

i also like blurring hem a little to help put the characters into focus

For the comic I edit pictures of public places that I take myself. This is after a lot of trial an error with so many different styles of creating backgrounds and this actually looked the best since the blurred and painted over background make the characters stand out a lot more and work with my art better than the other styles of bg's. It's also faster since I make a fully coloured 20-30 panel weekly comic so this type of background made the most sense.

I'm not the best at backgrounds since I feel like I don't plan them out well enough. When the backgrounds are not supposed to be focused I like to do them without lines to give it a watercolor feel. If they are supposed to be in focus I will line them but I'll still generally paint them in the same way except with lines.

Horizon line. Couple buildings in perspective. Couple in the distance. A tree or two. Couple people if needed. Nothing to complicated just something to give people an idea.

Ooh! Backgrounds are not my favorite thing to draw, but usually I do include them.

Depends on the scene - if it's a big panel, I'll want to include the background in a more detailed way. In "regular" panels, I'll put a background, but more loosely defined so that the focus is on the characters. Sometimes, if the background has already been established, I might just use solid colors as the background.

I also play around with angles sometimes, as if my comic was a movie storyboard! I especially like doing this in "boring" scenes when the setting doesn't change.

I feel like a cheat now...
For my complex BG I actually find a pic I love (or take) and just trace the
outline and some details and add the rest from my imagination.

I love Clip Studio Paint's perspective tool. I always feel like it doesn't matter how I draw the lines it will always look great XD. But I also use 3d software as well to make a base. : >
