Oh this makes me a little sad to read. Have you lost your motivation completely or just on a down day?
I haven’t lost motivation (yet) but I do feel frustrated, overwhelmed and disheartened sometimes - usually when I’m feeling down in general. The last few days I’ve almost been hyper with enthusiasm - but sometimes that can cause it too because I have a million other things I have to do before I’m even able to switch on the computer, by which time I’m knackered and can only do a quick sketch (better than nothing ).
Because I’ve got my first few chapters done already I find reading back through those (or my novel) really gets me hyped and in the mood.
If you haven’t started the actual comic yet I would go look through your sketches and concept art, notes, story, inspirations etc. Fall back in love with your project again!
Music helps me a lot too.
Try not to focus too much on what others are doing/have done. It’s good to look at other creatives work, but don’t be concerned if you come across something similar.
I’m typing away trying to be helpful, but I’m crap at this.
All I’m trying to say is - please don’t give up!
And that’s from someone who had a seven year long hiatus. Don’t get me wrong - I do love my life, but I did daydream about my comic/story all the time, and just felt like something was missing or that I’d never be able to go back to it. A bit like heartache I guess.
My motivations are:
I’m doing something I love (drawing and writing).
I’m learning new skills (and improving existing ones!)
I’m not wasting my life in front of the TV/PS4/phone (joke, I still do that - but I can’t if I’m drawing lol).
It’s actually out of my brain and I/others can see it!
There’s a lockdown anyway so I’ll make the most of it.
