How do you find an idea that you're passionate enough to stick with?

I think I understand how you might feel. Making a story is a long process as opposed to a more instant gratification from other projects. I write short notes on all the projects I want to work on so I can refresh my memory, but for long projects you just got to keep chipping away at it until you finish it.

What also helps is to give yourself more short term goals. I often tell myself to finish at the current chapter. Once that's done I give myself a pat on the back. That may or may not be enough for you personally, I would suggest to find your equivalent of that.

It may not seem like much to some but you just got to find those mini victories to keep you motivated. I huge daunting task can eventually wear out the most driven of people.

For me what helped me stick with my comic was the love of my characters. I grew really attached to one in particular, and anytime I tried starting a different project I felt bad for abandoning her.

Gosh, I feel the same way with the Dragoons. It's perhaps one of the reasons why I've had such trouble getting "unstuck" from them and their story to focus on other stuff with newer characters and setting as well. It's possibly also why I've had such trouble pulling the trigger and sticking with a project starring them because I'm afraid of failing with it and not giving characters I love so much "the best they deserve" if that makes sense. I know I've conquered a good amount of my issues I've had with perfectionism, but that's always seemed to be a minor sticking point always following me with those characters if that makes sense.

I've always drawn comics since little, I realized I was really excited to bring a notebook to class and I made a story so my friend could read.
I'd the same now, I have a partner that's always supporting me, she got the idea for my comic and I made the script, next to it, with both together, making a comic, something from our entire imagination, that's why we got stick to it. I have a folder with all the positive comments we've got for the comic and when I feel like throwing the towel or too lazy, I read them and eventually I see interest and even I question myself, that if they say so then, what they'll say after we make even better things next? and I feel excited and continue.

When I came up with my idea for my BL novel, it took me weeks to make an outline for the story (I'm still adding and deleting stuff as I go along). I just finished episode 28 yesterday, and I think one of the biggest motivators for me is telling myself:

-Is this something I'd read if I wasn't writing this?
-What's a situation I'd want to see happen if I was a reader? Would it get my blood boiling (in a good way?)

And most importantly....
-Am I in love with my characters?

I've put a lot of myself into my MCs which feels like an extension of me. In fact, the other day, I teared up a little thinking about the BS I'm gonna put my poor characters in throughout the story.

I'm a sucker for stories that make me get major feels in a shocking way (such as Dark Secrets series, Attack on Titan, Tokyo Ghoul...). I want my readers to get the same feelings that make them ponder for days. Seriously, after I finished Tokyo ghoul season 1, I sat on my couch for two days thinking before I could move on to the next season
