How do you keep yourself from spoiling everyone around you about your Story?

I try not to, that's why I have on friend who edits my stories who knows it so it's all good. LOL, I think it's pretty normal to try not to spoil your story because it's something to be excited about and your hard work.

Trade minor spoilers for large spoilers. That way I get the release of spoiling without giving away anything major. I spoiled ages ago things like Louis getting his hair chopped off. Small things. And big things in the vaguest ways. And also having someone totally not related to the project that I and blurt everything out to.

But also it doesn't matter all that much. Look at the amount of shows that spoil what's in the episode in "next time on" or "today on". It doesn't really effect people watching that much. I've always said if all you have is the surprise factor, it's probably not a great thing. Readers should want to keep reading to see how it's done and how it impacts the characters and plot, not just for "omg plot twist".

I count on my readers poor long term memory and it's working great so far because I have spoiled a lot of stuff and they don't remember

Quite often, its more fun than blurting out the truth

If people type in the comments and they get close to what will actually happen I will often reply with something like "we'll see! :3c " It's a bit of a tease without being a full blown spoiler.

But if people are way off I usually leave those alone. Especially if it sounds like their minds are made up that what they predict is what will happen. I won't correct them in the comments, I'll just have to wait for the story to get there.

Otherwise, I spoil everything to a third party, namely my husband, who doesn't have a vested interest in the story, but has a lukewarm interest in my creative endeavors. I use him to bounce ideas off of all the time.

they way i do it is ill usually spoil the really small things or the things that don't matter too much cause it might be an epilogue kind of spoiler so it has no real effect on the "here and now" scenes and events....

this usually stops people from asking me the hard questions like "so whos gonna die in the story?"

I just don't talk about it behind the scenes unless I want to bounce some ideas off people. I want it to be learned in the order that I write it. I care about the pacing.

Most of my readers end up spoiling my story just in the comments but I guess its easy to follow and not necessarily a bad thing, though I'll throw em some curve balls to keep it fun. Also shows high engagement.

I just go with the flow. If my brain is throwing up new ideas for chapters I make an outline til that well runs dry. Then I get back to drafting. If my brain is stuck on one chapter I keep drafting that chapter. I find if you don't follow the creativity you can risk losing it.

One day I cornered my brother and just told him the entire plot of my story Vehementia (it's okay, I didn't force him, he wanted to hear it ahaha). It was great because it let me flesh out the plot in my own mind and it was satisfying to tell someone else about it.

Any time I have an idea on my mind, I will talk to myself and that's it, that's kinda enough to fuel my thirst of talking about my projects lol Well, when I do have someone interested in my projects and ask something spoiler-ish, I'll say "the answer will be too spoiler! So just look out for it" and that's that.

I try but most of the people around me:
1 don't care
2 don't read the story
3 know of it and the characters but haven't read it because "im too busy"
4 dont want spoilers, because if they do ever read the story, they don't want to have been spoiled
5 have read up to like .... chapter 15 and stopped for whatever reason, so anything i tell them will be so far removed from their context of the plot they'll just go.... huh?
