That's interesting your magic system is based on their trauma, makes for nice narrative, your OCs having to face personal mental blocks. That's cool about the fire. And that's nice about the Curruptos and Shapers, are there innocent Curroptos also, those who mean well but their powers unwillingly cause harm?
Keep up the hard work!
Sounds like something I'd read-
I always sub those who sub me
Here's mines:
It was originally a game idea of mines so it very mechanics heavy -
It's a Superhero x Survival Horror x Dark Fantasy
The narrative is one in which it reveals itself upon progression like a horror movie,
so lots of Major Spoilers ahead lol
Power users fall within three generations. Their powers have been activated via sound frequencies inaudible to regular humans.
Gen 3: descendants of gen 2, whose powers remained dormant prior to hearing the HUM in this story. Their abilities are based on what was in their mind while hearing the Hum.
Gen 2: 20+ years ago a bunch of homeless kids were experimented on by scientists. They were injected with DNA from gen 1. Gen 2 was then exposed to a specific frequency waves which activated their powers. Their Abilities are based on the scientists' choice. The experimentation went out of hand and majority of subjects were killed. The surviving few had their powers suppressed via another frequency. The frequency is not something easily accessible, modern man requires advanced machinery.
Gen 1: Ancient beings who used specific sounds (mantras etc) known through history as gods and mythical figures eg. Hercules, Hera, Dracula, Zeus/Odin/ Indra etc Abilities based on their personal choices.
ABILITY CLASS
This could get pretty wordy so I'll stick to the three heroes:
Evan, Owen and Xun's powers are based on the states of matter - Liquid, Solid and Gas.
They require each other's powers to pass obstacles and defeat certain enemies.
Evan and Owen are suspected to be Gen 3. Xun is Gen2.
The majority of supporting cast are gen 2 and 3. Gen 1 being the rare.
Evan
Type: Solid
Class: inspired by Light Swordsman & Thief
Start Power: he can calcify his bodily byproducts to form blades, swords and other melee weapons
His saliva is the most reliable source for weapon making.
Later Power: He can turn foreign bodies into solid by physical touch
Owen's Fusion: He can make explosive/ poision bubbles, sticky substances
Pros: quick reflexes, usually acts on instinct, fast learner
Cons: Unable to change his physical form, unable to enter porous surfaces, has all the flaws of a regular human (or so he thinks)
Owen:
Type: Gas
Class: He's a cross between Status Effect Mage types, location scout and an equipped item (think Materia from Final Fantasy 7)
Start Power: He can transform into an invisible gas- flight, stealth, short range teleport, enter porous surfaces, and fuse with Evan or Xun to augment/alter their abilities (see Owen's fusion). He develops a telepathic ability to distance view other Gen 3 characters.
Later Power: He can teleport to Evan and Xun's locations (other Gen 2 and Gen 3 characters whose trust he earns), he can teleport to memorized locations. He can trick enemies to trust him, fuse onto them and disintegrate them.
Pros: Once he turns into Gas and back to human, his body resets and wounds disappear, body temperature self-regulates, lacks the need for regular sleep or hunger.
Cons: Human form can be killed like regular human, his fears hold him back, the slightest doubt will break his gas form (think holding your breath for a long period). Pushing himself to the extreme will either make him faint or go into a cabalistic hunger mode. Weak against Vacuum type monsters.
Most of his abilities are discovered via Fight of Flight response
Xun
Type: Liuid
Class: Unarmed, Monk type w Parkour
Start Power: Can transform his limbs/ full body into liquid form to swat and smash enemies, stealth mode
Later Power: He can transform external bodies into liquid mass and absorb them, to replenish himself also
Owen's Fusion: He learns to make Corrosive Liquids, Poison and Sticky liquids
Pros: Once he turns into Liquid and back to human, his body resets and wounds disappear, body temperature self-regulates, lacks the need for regular sleep or hunger. He was a former Assassin and most experienced of the trio.
Cons: Human form can be killed like regular human, slightest doubt will break his liquid form (think holding your breath for a long period). Pushing himself to the extreme will either make him faint or go into a cabalistic hunger mode. Extreme temperatures affect/disrupt his liquid form eg. North Pole, Inferno etc
Some others include a person who can puppeteer anyone who witnesses their drawings, a gravity manipulator, a Gen 2 guy who can reshape his gas-form and take the form of animals.
Speaking of the Generation 3 and what they thought of while hearing the Hum: One included a Post Delivery Guy who remained with a package during the HUM. His curiosity to what's inside, turns said package into a random loot box every time he opens it. It can either emit powerful elemental projectiles or something completely useless.
Downside - Zombie-Like Apocalypse
Human equipment to produce the inaudible frequencies was not 100% guaranteed. The mystery person/ object that produced the HUM in this story did a poor job (think an untuned guitar), It caused Gen 3 and 2 males to emit a frequency from their bodies that causes regular humans and mammals to mutate into Zombie-Like creatures called Xynous.
If one Xynous is killed and there are others standing close, The gooey remains will combine the others together to form larger and more powerful enemies in counts of 5, 10, 15, 20 etc.
They will also randomly adopt traits if other mammal species are present eg. 3 humans, 1 horse and 1 bat.
Apologies for this getting long, usually have fun with these questioners lol
Thanks for the opportunity
