How long did you wait before starting your comic?

I think it was around two years from the initial idea to the first pages going online. I didn't start drawing until I'd spent many months world building and figuring out where the story was going, and it didn't go online until I had about 10 finished pages.

The time planning tends to vary for me by project. Sometimes I'm feeling really inspired, so I can get most of the plot down within a week or two, and then I just have to refine, rewrite and cut until I have something decent . Other times ideas I have sit around for months not really going anywhere until finally they come together. I don't start drawing actual pages until I have a good idea of where the story is going, and at least some of it scripted.

Been going on since I was a kid, The characters have changed alot.
Started doing it on Hatena Flipnote in like 2011? it has like 107 episodes... it's a long one. Now I'm recently sorting out all the plot holes
and after I finish the side story Likho, I will be starting it.

Echo was at first a simple story for my video game studies in 2nd year. Then i wanted to began comics with a story, but I didn't know which one would be perfect.
So I took this one, because I liked some parts, and reworked on it for some months, maybe one year, I don't remember. It was really long because the story wasn't a good thing for a comic, there was too much hum... details turned for gaming that wouldn't work in comics, or too much clichés.
I released the first page on august 2012. Working on it since then.

According to my journal... I started From Dust To Ruination a week or two after going "I wanna make a webcomic".

... Yeah, I though this post of mine would be a little more exciting when I clicked the Reply button XD But yeah, that's the wait time, and not long after that, I started posting on ComicFury, and when I discovered Tapastic, I started uploading here as well.

I came up with the idea for Reus my senior year of high school back in 2010. It started as a comic I drew on some scrap paper, but I didn't have much experience with drawing at the time, so I decided to make it a novel instead. I also had never heard of webcomics at that point in time, so I didn't consider it an option. After years of trying to write Reus as a novel throughout college, I finally threw in the novel towel. It wasn't meant to be a novel; it was meant to be a comic. And I wanted to draw it, in spite of lack of experience. So my senior year of college, I started drawing a lot, got a drawing tablet, and one year later (January 2015), I started uploading it to Tapastic. Reus has changed a lot over the years, but the main concept has stayed the same (more or less).

My first ever comic I made in middle school was a long thought experiment the 4 years prior to creating pages. I slowly doodled it out through high school before dropping the project. I learned a lot from it just because I had no fear of testing out techniques or worrying about timing. I didn't do any comics for about 6 years while I was in college. Visceral, the comic Im working on now I began thinking about probably 1 year prior to actually starting the first page. It began with story bits and eventually imagery came with it. I have enough chunks of the story fleshed out to allow myself polish room as I tackle the finer details of each page. Its a shame I have to have a day job or this thing would be rolling faster. So yeah, I spend about a year or more to think things through before deciding to dedicate more energy into making it come to life.

Oh man, I started pumpin out comics as soon as I knew how to make them. I must have illustrated half a dozen cheesy/violent mangas in middle and highschool. Hundreds of pages.. oh those were the times, when I drew for the sake of DRAWING.

Looking back at my old comics, I remember how passionate I was about it all. I think I've lost some of that in these past few years. Things got rough after high school. I ran away from home and was thrust into adulthood over the span of a day. Drawing little humor strips on my cheap laptop relieved a lot of stress. They made my friends laugh, which made me laugh. It was a good time. There's more to the story, but that could go on for a while. ANYWAY-

Don't wait till you're "good enough" to start doing what you love. \o/

Back in March, I realized that I had a lot of story ideas buzzing through my head. I started writing down the synopsis of each story so they wouldn't disappear. I also began to read Tapastic again after a long hiatus (the app helped out a lot) and saw that a lot of my stories could be turned into a webcomic series. I've always wanted to work on a webcomic, but I'm a writer not an artist, so it didn't seem like my ideas would go anywhere.

I searched DeviantArt's journal portal on and off for artists looking for writers and I sent a few PMs to the few who might be still looking. A day later, I got a response back from Ciloh, who was looking to draw a one-shot manga. Now all I needed was to choose a story, but none of mine fit. So I had to think up a brand new story and went with the high school genre story. I was lucky enough to have Yuumei (Fisheye Placebo & Knite) look at two-thirds of the script's first draft and get some good feedback while she was at the Cherry Blossom Festival in San Francisco.

After a month of brainstorming together, the artwork of the first page is done with the next few pages already sketched out. Feels good!

And it may result sometimes in crappiness, but hey, at least one can get it out of one's system

I wish I started thinking about webcomics earlier...I had the idea to start a comic two weeks before I uploaded my first story, I was kind of in a rush to get it started (no patience).
I wish now I spent more time developing stories and drawing more before I actually started the comic. Now, each week I have to come up with a new story, which I have come to realize how hard it is =( I often spend more than a week finishing a story.

Well it started out as a novel first, mostly cause I temporarily gave up the idea of doing comics (at the time I was still looking for an artist), but now sense I've gotten to the point where I can make them look vaguely like people, I decided to give it a shot myself.

And really, though I write, I really prefer comics/manga.

I started my main comic because of a dream I had almost a year ago. I think about a month after having the dream, I realized that I had to start creating what I would eventually title as, "The Underground." I took my first figure studies course as well as a mini course on drawing comics before uploading the first chapter. However, all throughout the time I was taking classes, I was constantly writing and re-writing, designing and re-designing. So I guess I started working on it almost right away though I didn't start seriously drawing it until a few months after conceiving the idea. It was just this growing thing inside of me. I would have/will go crazy if I didn't/don't create it!
