How long does it takes you to reach 1000 subs for 2020？

I've been updating my comic about a year and I'm at 675, so... I have no idea, honestly. Realistically I don't expect to hit it any time before the end of the year unless I get another Staff pick, but I do think I'll get there eventually.

I just reached 1k subs today yay! that's i think hmmm 5 months here in tapas, maybe because I update almost everyday,
in webtoon i think 3 years? cause I've been on hiatus, maybe that doesn't count.
but i think it depends.

I was up to exactly 999 on my comic on Webtoons when I rebooted it and started from scratch. I think I may be cursed. XD

I started posting in May of this year, and reached 1k about halfway through June. Idk, im still floored. I have virtually 0 following anywhere else, so it wasn't like I could direct traffic to my comic that way. I think it came down to two things:
1. GL isn't nearly as popular a genre as say BL or general Romance, so maybe I had more visibility with an audience hungry for GL.
2. I started posting a mermaid centric comic during Mermay, so maybe readers were more open to reading my comic at the time.
I think in my case and many cases, the growth comes down to dumb luck. I feel really lucky anyway Also, I was and remain enthusiastic about my comic and stuck to a schedule, which I think goes a long way in pulling people in.

I hit 1k 4 years ago, but I started a new comic this year around May and it's sitting around 300 subs after 4 months. The growth on Tapas in 2020 is much slower than in 2016.

I don't promote my new comic either, so it's either returning readers or random new readers.

There are a lot of factors involved, so it's different for everyone. I've been posting my comic on Tapas for about ten months now, and I just hit 1,000 subscribers. Some people will make it there faster, some will take longer to get to that number, and some may never get to a thousand. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Like everyone else said, it really depends. Even if you reach 1K, most of them might not even be reading or engaging with the work. I personally focus on gaining active readers and the rest tends to follow later. (I've had this experience with my art on other sites too!)

The same thing happened with my novel. Obviously almost no novel on here is going to get 1000 subscribers (only 95 free novels on the site have even reached this so far, the vast majority of them BL, also yes I did count this for some reason), but thanks to the sheer lack of GL books and getting featured on the front page, my story grew to 400+ subscribers. I do tirelessly promote my books, but I also cross-post to a few sites sites and so many readers never even saw the story on Tapas. Therefore I think it's super cool just to get that many.

Is it possible to get a GL novel to 1000 subscribers? That is what I want to find out with my next book (or, a future book if I cross-post other novels on Tapas first).

This is the highest-subscriber GL story, though it is in the fantasy genre:

And this one has close to 1000, but in Romance, and I am absolutely baffled how it has that many with just ten episodes and long-ago cancelled:

All three of these are genre fictions with GL romance mixed in, but I wonder what it would take for a non-fantasy real-life set GL story to reach that many subscribers? It'll be interesting to see. Also I'm not sure why I wrote this big spiel about this lol sorry

Wow! Only 95 novels have reached 1000 subs! That seems crazy low compared to how many novels are on here!

95 free ones, at least; I didn't count the Premium ones though I assume there are plenty there, since Tapas actively promotes those.

Only 10 free fantasy novels have reached it, too, which threw me for a complete surprise because of how popular that genre is for comics.

I guess that's why Tapas Premium is trying to get more novels to promote, huh?

A lot of Premium stories can be read through for free through certain means like watching ads on the app or doing Wait for Free and stuff like that. I think the allure of trying to read a Premium story for free is what gets some people lol. Though, I think the main thing is simply that Tapas promotes those stories more, and with Premium stories you get the "guarantee" that the production values will be good, and the story will be finished; free ones are more "risky" for your time.

Doesn’t really take more than a few minutes to figure out if you like it or not... I would have loved if Tapas added all completed stories to Binge section or separated them so the story doesn’t go down like a lead balloon as soon as it is not on the Fresh... less work for them too.
