How many Wattpad refugees?

This one just made me cry, because I wanted to be on the Romance list for 2 years. Wattpad made me feel that I can't get reads no matter what I wrote or how good i've become because I am bad with social media.

Here, on Tapas, I get what's most important to me: the organic reads from people who stumbled upon my story and gave it a chance. And that's all I want, a bit of visibility.

I'm right there with you. While I still have my SM accounts, I don't use them anymore for the sake of my mental health and I got so sick of people when I was using social media who ONLY promoted something. The people here are really nice and want to celebrate with you.

I will say that Wattpad has made me grateful for the good reviews. One of the first reviews I got when I posted my story to another site was top ratings and while they acknowledged it wasn't perfect, they could see walking into a bookstore and finding Cherry Stark books.

I love the Wattpad community and I miss the forums. However, on Wattpad you have to hustle a little to get any reads and without the forums and the SYS threads, I worry that I won't get any reads for my stories. A Reddit thread recommended Tapas so I decided to try it, since I'd already made an account to follow webcomics I like.

I'm from wattpad trying Tapas. I'm posting my story which is BL historical fantasy I'm not an Emperor's sweetie Pie on both wattpad and tapas. The readers on wattpad are very responsive, active which I love. They motivate me to write more; they're lovely! But on Tapas, so far it feels barren.

@Sadistic_Senpai I've experienced Wattpad being baren in periods but also that my Tapas readers are very active. I think it depends on what kind of book you're writing as well and how one cater to the audience.

@Leverance Yeah, I also think the kind of books do matter. It's like some kind of books being more popular in wattpad than here. shrugs I actually love getting comments/feedbacks on my chapters. And I get good amount of them in wattpad. That's why it feels barren here to me.

@Sadistic_Senpai They do, certain books do better in some platforms than others. I do the same, I don't mind it. I used to get a lot of feedback on Wattpad but now is . . . quiet. I think is because they've removed the Newsfeed as well now.

I've never known about the news feed till it got removed, so I'm not even sure that it would have ben usefull

Hence, wattpad, tapas all of those platforms have their algorythms, manage to work them and you can get somewhere. In that sense they represent the market in some way. No one just puts a book out for sale and sits back and watches what happens. You need to market and work. Online platforms are no different

That isn't what I meant, I've seen people promote every way possible on Wattpad and still not get any readers. What works for some doesn't work for others. Not everyone likes promoting themselves.

@Leverance Right! I never promoted my book on wattpad. Just updated frequently before going into a short hiatus of 2 months then started posting again. Yes, newsfeed was good way to discover books. I discovered more books by seeing what the people I followed liked or commented on.

Not everyone likes promoting themselves.

Totally agree, a lot of people don't like it.
Hence, in the blunt reality of things, if you want to get somewhere you will have to do that or be one of the lucky few. On Wattpad.
For as far as I know... Tapas doesn't need the same amount of promoting.
At least not what I have seen and experienced for mine

@Sadistic_Senpai When I started on Wattpad six years ago I just posted ca three chapters and left for a year lol. I used the Newsfeed frequently, I think it was an organic way to gain readers and support from fellow creators.

@WolfUnderTheMoon89 Yup! I'm one of the seniors of the site (the first ones on there was there back in 2009). So I've seen lots of changes throughout the years, not always for the best.

Personally, I "sell" myself first by gaining a reputation on the site and sometimes post about my stories. That way people don't feel I'm an empty face that just posts links and leave.
On my end His Obsession (a BL fanfic) is doing quite well on here. I don't promote it too much either. Though, on Inkitt and Wattpad is another story.

My most read book on Wattpad is a 62K reads work. I'm nowhere big either lmfao.

Ah that's probably similar, I started mine up in February and am now around 87k views there
I joined Tapas a few months later with the same work.

@WolfUnderTheMoon89 I joined Wattpad back in 2014 XD I didn't begin posting on Tapas and Inkitt before this year. I've LOTS of books I need to begin cross-posting.

It's a werewolf book, right? They generally do well across many sites. On my end, it's the vampire book that's the most read.

@WolfUnderTheMoon89 Yeah . . . The proper genre is Paranormal after all (vampire goes under it as well in the Traditional Publishing).

I think so as well, I write a lot of BL, so I suppose it will do well on here. I don't know how Inkitt takes LGTB+ works yet, I've mostly seen straight romances on there (no offense but it isn't my cup of tea).

Yes, the term paranormal fits way more. And I do feel like there is a huge difference between werewolfs and shifters... but I have to get it into a category somehow

no offence taken! we love what we love and that's the best thing there is, variety.

But yes, I believe BL would do good here. (I have one of those planned in the series, but that is around book 7 or 8)

@WolfUnderTheMoon89 It does, doesn't it? I wish us writers had the option for Paranormal or Teen Fiction. I think those genres will do excellent on here. It's a huge difference between werewolf and shifters (in most Wattpad books the "werewolves" are actually shifters). I just think some haven't done their proper research into the mythology that goes with it and it shows.

Indeed! The world would've been very stale with only one category.

It does, I can't wait to post my original fiction on here, just want to get my Fanfics out of the way first. I think of them as free writer samples for my later works. That's awesome!
