How old are your main characters?

I actually have an entire spreadsheet of sums for working out my character's ages (and birthdays) in our terms because I had to be a smartass and create an entire calendar system. So in human terms my main main characters are:

Eric and Isaak - 24
Louis - 26
Percy - 27
Ari - 31

For current comic my characters fall into the teenage age range, because the whole story has an innocence loss theme which works best if your characters are fairly young. So the main characters are 19 and 15 respectively.

I do plan a second comic after The Machinist with my characters being in their 30ies, probably 34 and 39 for the main couple with the third character having no real concept of age as they just got knocked down from being immortal to a mortal being.

My protagonist is 67 though since he’s a vampire he is actually 38. The other protagonist is 41.

My characters are all over the board age wise. Two of them are in their mid thirties while my robot is over seventy. The ghoul is under a month old and the antagonist has been alive since 1818. Then again none of these characters are truly human so matters of maturity or growing pains may not apply.

I never stopped to think about actual numbers, but they're all different ages, Illynn and Ursulla are the youngest being 18~19, Cress and Wicket around 25, Bob reaching his 30s, Jo definitely way over 40, Bartolomeo around 50 something and Sebastian being the oldest at 70 because he's a High-Elf, so he doesn't look old at all

My main characters are in their 30s, but I think as creators, we rely heavily upon experience. The age group of many of us here probably lies within a late teen to mid 30s range, so we create based on this. It isn't that we make characters the same age we are, but our range of experience becomes our current lifespan. It is hard for a 19 year old to imagine the maturity levels and sense of perspective a 50 year old should have, and a lot of what our efforts work towards are being convincing in both describing lifestyle and composing monologues and dialogues. When we're in our 60's, we will have that span of six decades prior to work from, and as we are all unique, so too shall our characters be. As for the younger end, honestly, I think we just don't remember much from that era, or it was either too normal, or too dark with which to easily create a story.

Generally I tend to focus on the New Adult demographic, specifically a small subset of New Adult where not only are they out of college, they are also on the cusp of full blown adulthood. Certain exceptions: Younger versions of the main characters, also younger siblings of the main characters even more occasionally. Or if still in high school, say nineteen for example, dating someone who is almost eighteen.

New Adult can typically be thought of as the age range between 18-27. Generally mine tend to be around 23-27.

We have three main characters

in our comic Wayfinders: Off Course
Lani is around 24 years, Sallly is 19-20 and Andrée is an adult adult at a age of 34

None of them are that old or young.
The team will be joined later by a 44 year old, and even later by a woman who is 54, so we have some old characters joining the team.

I know a guy who is going around pitching a tv-show called Badass Grannies in Space, and it looks so fun! There is a lot of potential in both a very young and very old protags, because of lack and a lot of experiences.

I think Miazaki and Ghibli plays around with it, has a lot of old ladies and small girls in his stories

Gabriel was turned at fifteen in 1788 and was unable to physically age after that. But, he underwent an artificial aging procedure in 2017 to make him 21. However, being that he was born on Halloween night 1773, his actual age is 246, even though his biological age is 21.

And that's how we end up with hot vampires like Johnny Depp, who are really old men.

I kid, but I really like old characters that look young.
