Take this advice with a Big grain of salt, as I’m a gay asexual man who met his current partner online and only ever had the one, but our 4 year anniversary is coming up so clearly something worked.
You have to want a friendship in order to get romance, in my experience. Not in a “Having friends is just a stepping stone to screwing them later” way. But if we look at relationship types taxonomically, dating is a subspecies of friendship, so if you want to get a partner, the best way is to just make friends you share interests with and enjoy spending time with, and if you develop feelings for any of them, be honest and see what happens. My partner and I were friends for a while, a mutual friend suspected we were dating and told us, and we went “Well, we are now, good idea.” which is… very specific and not something I can recommend expecting to happen. But shows you don’t need to be constrained by the whole “Go on a million first dates with everyone you might be compatible with” idea of dating. Just be nice, have an open mind, respect people’s boundaries and have a firm grasp on your own, and someone will happen to you eventually.
