You know I've gotten a lot of, "do what you like and people will like it too," even though there is some truth to that I personally think you should also incorporate what readers want to see. I use to do a lot of shoujo comics and the first comic I posted here on tapas was shoji however, I didnt get a lot of viewership. I've always enjoyed working on same sex couple romantic comics however I struggled with it (on some personal level) eventually I decided to drop the comic I was working on and started this on and ever since then it's been growing. not as much as it use to bit its a bit steady now. for me what helped was to tackle stories I believe my readers will enjoy and I also practiced on my artwork. I try to advertise on social media everyone in a while but to be honest with you, its hard so its important to remain constant. and do the most you can when it comes to advertising. anyway, check mines out if you interested.
