How'd you pick your story's title? Tell your story's...story

I was doodling at work between tasks trying to come up with a name by using the word UFO (being that the comic is a syfy about aliens) and I was trying to come with an acronym from the letters and then I dropped everything out of my lap which I was using as a table. I started to say "Aw fu- oh no" but cut myself off because there were children present. Changed the Aw to Uh and there you have it. UFOHNO!

How about chapter titles?

A lot of the chapter titles for "Crystal Blue" come from, or are inspired by, quirky lines or rare words used in the chapter, like "Walking Graffiti" or "Phantosmia."

I never really thought about why I named my novel The Lost Forest until this question. The title mainly alludes to one the Mc’s brother disappearing in said forest, and the forest itself not being on any known maps. It’s like a realm to another world. My Mc also doesn’t want the same thing that happened to her brother happen to others. So she’s doing her best to try to prevent others from being lost in the forest. I’m sure I could explain it better but this is what came to mind.

Elyn is trying to solve the mystery of her brother’s disappearance while also guiding souls to the afterlife.

French Cup was a result of wondering what the heck to name the coffee shop and bakery in the story. It's the community's center, so it made sense for the book to be called that, too. I was like, "they serve French pastries and coffee... Coffee cup... French pastry... French Cup. Yeah. Ok. Go with it, I guess. I can't come up with anything fancier, and to be honest my characters are also not the sharpest crayons in the box so they'd likely come to that name conclusion, too lol."

With an alarming amount of statistical analysis!
I always sucked at coming up with titles for my stories, and this was no exception. I ended up deciding to see the title formula for other magical girl stories, and with a few exceptions (looking at you, pretty cure..) most of them were either the main character’s title when transformed, or name and job. Sailor Moon, Revolutionary Girl Utena, I’d say Madoka Magica counts because the original title is “magical girl madoka magica”, I’m not sure why they changed it but that’s besides the point.
Okay, ‘Abysskeeper’ isn’t a job per se, but it’s the kind of otherworldly sea monster Ea is and Suen turns into sometimes, so I still think it works.

mine was originally "Ocean Dwellers" but I later changed it to Echoes of the abyss. This is for a variety of reasons. The word echo comes from the power system the main character has, its an ability called an echo that has special characteristics and helps him grow faster than other people.

The second reason for the word echo comes from the location of the story, its set at the bottom of the ocean, where creatures roars echo for miles. The "of the abyss" part is there for the same reason.

I feel like it really makes a person realise that the story is not supposed to be a happy one. an abyss of echoes doesn't sound like a good place to be in. Not for me at least.

So "The Viscount and The Playwright" is a rewritted version of "Diaries of Viscount Mousehole (1809-1810)" but they still focus on the relationship between the titular characters of TVaTP. There are changes that are made from DoVM and TVaTP, specifically the changes of its setting for historical accuracy and its writing since I accidentally lengthen one of its chapters which is divided into months.

Note: I started writing and publishing DoVM when I was 16, but the character lore developed when I was 12-13. I posted a video series on YouTube before starting writing DoVM which is known as Mysteries of the Miseries which is inspired by analog horror and Mystery Case Files: Ravenhearst game series.

I genuinely don't recall fully. I know that before I reworked my story to be more dark and gritty, it didn't HAVE a name. Eventually, when I made the change, I think I just threw some words together that sounded cool? Initially, the reapers had a bigger focus than they do now, so I think the name made more sense back then.

But then I reworked the story again, leaving the name kinda meaningless. So then I worked the story around the name rather than the other way around? Which actually ended up creating an infinitely more interesting story lol

So long story short, I made sh*t up and it ended up looping around into making sense in the end!
