I remember a decade ago when a classmate gave me her copy of the book. I tried for a week to even start it.
I watched the 1984 Film maybe that could convince me to slog through it. I understood what the world is about but I still couldn't find it interesting in any way.
The current film iteration is good. Actually enjoyed watching it, but as expected I still dislike the world. What I did discover this time around is that I understood the real world parallels that inspired the series. Also I could remember the names a lot better. fk those house names!
I know the whole story as I read up on it on wikis like a school project because I cba to waste my time to go through it knowing it would be a chore for me to read. It actually made it worse, but I again I can see where it influenced other stories and even videogames.
Speaking of video games, the movie feels very video gamey in art direction (architecture and vehicles immediately reminded me of the Wolfenstein dieselpunk style). I like that a lot, but if you're big into gaming it kinda ruins it a bit for you since you've experienced so many set pieces and adventures already.
Basically, film's good and enjoyable even If I don't like the world, it's themes, ideas direction and lore.
