Go on a walk and eat something nice. Occupy your mind with something else.
If it works out, it works out. If it doesn't, at least you tried. Think: "Will this even matter five years from now?" If not, and if that line of thinking helps you with your anxious feelings, then great. If that question doesn't help with your anxious feelings, however,, then just occupy yourself with something until you know your old friend's reaction.
