So we would go back in time to meet this person. My working assumption is that you are automatically "uploaded" with their language and a passing grasp of their cultural and social norms and nuances, and that this person would be as devoted to you as you would be to them, otherwise the exercises is sort of pointless.

So I would consider... Cleopatra. She was supposedly quite beautiful but also smart and played the game of politics well, which I admire. She ruled during the Iron Age of Rome and while Egypt was technically becoming subsumed into a puppet state of the Empire at that time it still had a lot of power and influence. As the boss lady's #1 dude I could introduce a lot of reforms and Make Egypt Great Again (haha) while touring a region of the world I have always found fascinating.

If Cleopatra actually was a hottie I'd spend a lot of time at the Palace, but if it turns out to all be propaganda and she was less appealing (as some sources speculate) then I can just get by with having a lot of influence and introducing things like steam power and maybe gunpowder if I can either bring books with me or have time to memorize the basics before I go.

So… if I were to go back in Houdini’s time. I would have to talk like a lady in those days, he could teach me how to use a telegraph, he’d wonder where I got my scars on my tummy, how I am looking very healthy, why I talk a little funny, I would have to use a candlestick phone, learn to write letters, he’s teaching me cursive, I’m wearing a corset (which I don’t mind, I will wear it properly and use it as it was meant for) I’d have to get used to heels, and get used to the undergarments, how to wear a hat pin, how to use a chamber pot, how to get used to the smell of cigarettes and horse poop, no bug spray, running water is meh, no food regulations, medical stuff is fine, no pain medication, not to mention all the diseases, meat was not regulated, I have to store food in a cellar, ice boxes if lucky, drink dirty pump water and probably get cholera, I may get thrown into an asylum for “hysteria”

Is it worth it?

I guess since man first started to write stuff/keep records? That's generally what historians start considering history. So as far back as ~4000 BCE

Like, I'd consider someone like JFK a historical figure for example and he was assassinated in '63

There are the positives too dude. He could actually have a family, I wouldn’t have to deal with now, I would get to wear cool clothes. Sure it will be hard but I would love it overall.

If these guys living in the early 20th century could adapt so why couldn’t I?

Surely it wasn’t all bad. There’s cool old stuff, chalkboards are cool, suits are cool. Books are cool. Carriages are cool.

I don’t know what to tell you, but it’d be worth it.
