If you had to teach a class on one thing, what would you teach?

I currently teach a manga&illustration afterschool program, and formerly did high school English. I think I would still enjoy teaching these two subjects areas.

If I could pick something outside, I would like to teach a band class. It would be fun to coordinate a bunch of instruments to make a song work.

What sucks about teaching is that half the kids don't wanna be there in the first place. In public school, English is a required subject, so kids don't all enjoy it like how they would in elective classes of their own choosing. As for my after school programs, parents just sign their kids up for classes where they don't have much interest in it. It feels more like babysitting with drawing as an option than anyone learning seriously how to improve their artwork.

I would love to teach psychology! I loved everything about that class, it really made learning so much easier and fun when you enjoy the subject. Though, having a great teachwr can make a huge impact on your experience, and I'm really bad at explaining things effectively so maybe it'd be best I didn't teach in the first place lol

I run a comic strip club at my high school, I don’t really know if that counts? Most of the club members just fart around and draw in their sketchbooks, so it’s not really a “class”. One time a girl started yell-singing Country Road in the middle of work time
But I would probably teach comics since that’s the thing I have the most practice with. And maybe animation too. Or algebra. I’m pretty good at algebra... just kidding. I hate math.

I would teach a class on the meanings of passages in the Bible. I would not be teaching from a view point of someone being right or wrong depending on if they keep the commandments or not. I would teach the class the same way that a teacher would teach different types of mythology.

Ah, population genetics! It would probably be the easiest for me to teach.

I could also teach general biology to undergrads. And plant pathology, well, that's what I have a PhD in, I would be at ease I suppose, but I don't like it as much as population genetics.

Plus anything related to vegetable farming in cold climates.

Ooooh I'm actually kinda thinking about doing this as an adjunct in the future, but I could do something in applied machine learning or a cyber security-focused data science class. The former already has a ton of open resources already but it'd be nice to not put a heavy emphasis on some of the math derivations and instead focus on the problem approach and 'finding the right tool for the right problem'.

Nothing cause i'd make a horrible teacher. Even if it was art i'd just suck at it. It's just one of those fields that requires massive dedication and leadership.

I personally would like to master something before putting myself in a teaching position. I have been asked for sculpting classes, crafts, and drawing but to be honest I have never felt confident to do so. I often see people who lack skill, knowledge, and experience and still sell themselves as great masters...I find that weird. If I had to teach a class I would prefer to talk about marketing, making your own brand, starter "kits" for comic artists and basics for entrepreneurs. I would love to prepare myself in those areas.

I'm a Professor. I currently teach Graphic design courses of Unity, Blender and Opentoonz. And in design areas related to profesional work . I want to make courses on internet related to comics, design and music. But since I have months without internet and 12 hours a day of interrupted power, I decided to give up on everything and stare at the window and see life goes by.

ik sometimes very lucky schools will work with an artist for a particular project with their students.

Funny/sad story about that...

The school I did the majority of my student teaching at scheduled a kind old gentlemen who was a master "whittler"/wood carver to demonstrate his process. I was tasked with helping him set up for the day and realized we had an "issue" when he opened up his wooden toolbox to reveal a serial killers starter kit.

Bear in mind this was a school that had me snap the tips off exacto blades so they couldn't be used for stabbing.

I sadly helped him load up his tools and drive his truck off school grounds. Then he road back with me, and talked beside a log all day.
