Illegal tracers getting more subs

I think that pure tracing someone else's art and saying it's yours is wrong.
I also think that if you trace some ones art for self teaching or understanding the art is o.k.
copying a pose (not tracing, but looking at the art and drawing ) and imposing a character on it is o.k.
we learn by imitation and understanding.

I think we need to be open minded sometimes. I don't think because they trace they do have more subs. In the end, subs are made by the choice of our fans and readers. Unless it is BOT.

OKAY I NEED AN ADVICE HERE
For you who know my Blue Life.
It is no secret that the entire comic is only made with boxes and cirkels and manipulated free in-app clip-art.
But that's the point, that's the Dogme, my rule. It can only be made so.
I newer claimed to be a professionel comic drawer.

But there was one episode where I entetienol traced a free to use clip-art from the web.
The thing is... I can't find the original any more and the clip-art I traced is traced all over the web and some is for personal use and other totally free.

Sometimes stuff is just really lost on the internet, and super hard to find the original. That's a problem with people posting stolen artwork on tumblr, dA or pixiv where the original artist posted it in a closed Patreon, discord, or instagram. Google's reverse image search can't always find that stuff.

On the topic of people tracing their comic and it getting a lot of subs... I agree it's good to trace to learn, sort of. You should really eye-ball copy, not trace directly over. Your hand will get the movements eventually, and tracing won't make it happen faster. That said, I feel like people who spend all of their time tracing are putting in the exact same amount of energy as someone drawing it freehand. So they're fast at tracing, or cleaning it up enough to use it with just a few modifications. That takes time, and once you're pretty fast at drawing, the amount of time evens out. So, just.... Just spend your time actually drawing. You won't be saving any "time" in the long run of creating your comic honestly.

Also, this reusing and tracing... It's not limited to drawn media either... If you watch a lot of sitcoms, most of them use the same sets, or re-used sets- ie the Everyone Loves Raymond house set looks like it was reused for the new "Maid" Progressive commercial.

I have mixed feelings about tracing. Sure it's not cool to trace people's work but things are not so black and white.
Once on Deviantart, I saw some drama about a 17 years old girl painting digitally on photo she found on internet as references. Some artist a bit famous got pissed at her work and made a journal about how she steals photo.
The harassment she had afterwards made her quit drawing and she left deviantart.
What I saw in this case, was an artist getting things personal and making things his duty to point flaws of another person for I dunno what reason. What I saw was a young girl's confidence being crushed and disgusted by art for years and what I saw from her work was someone who had talent and spent a lot of time and work on her photo-painting.

So the thing about how fair it is to get more subs than others because of tracing makes me a bit uneasy. I dunno how to put it, but really... are you sure the tracing is getting people more subs? Is tracing really the problem with it here?
If the story is good even if there's tracing, it doesn't deserves the right to be liked by people?

Oof tell me about it there are so many dramas in deviantart I grew up leaving that place as well previously ;; I have had people pointing me out so many times there for my art flaws and mistakes (in a bad way of to point of shaming you), I had self harmed myself in the past and stopped doing digital art as well, until I came back again but now here on Tapas / Webtoons instead, starting again.

I think that was very unfair of her to quit drawing just because of just using reference and intended photo-painting. I wish her good luck on wherever she is.

I think the point made here in this post is that you can trace legally, you can use free photos, 3D models, etc as your references to practice your art but to trace other people's existing own art work or what they said "anime artwork" by someone else without their knowledge and benefiting from it whether getting subs/fans/money is kind of unfair.

The title did say "Illegal tracers getting more subs" this is towards the illegal kind of tracing than the legal tracing.

DeviantArt has been already a toxic place imo. What happened is such a worst thing they can do. I hope the gal will find herself again that she has the ability to do amazing art amidst of these because using of using simply a photograph than an existing artwork.

Bro, I support people tracing for practices, 3D modelling, legal ways to finish a comic faster by using non-copyrighted material, but not people who use other people's existing work like I said in my annoying af ramble of Anime pictures that were made by their own artists. Especially if they are using this to gain subs or make money.

Every story has always a reason to be read or heard, just make sure if you do a comic about it you do it at least in the right or legal way without taking someone else's copyrighted ready made work and using it without even crediting it.

I admit I wrote this post just also because from learning a hard lesson myself when I traced a few years ago of someone else's work and claiming I did everything by myself and how proudly I am to gain followers because of tracing such a wonderful artwork, when it is entirely wrong and injustice.

I quite respect people more who did try their best in the most legal way and they have the less subs than people who have more subs just because of taking someone else's artwork, tracing it and claiming it as their own.

But I do wish people who pour loads of their time and hardwork into something they have made to have the deserving followers and subs they have.

Just remember to credit which is which in the description if necessary. I prefer people admitting things themselves than people who claim "I did everything by myselfff broooo".

Thanks for the advice. I think I'm good for now. But will see if I can manege to make my own. The thing is it had to be done by my Dogme. And draw freehand in Keynote (Power Point) Is not easy.

Yeah, I hope so for the girl. The harassment was very heavy though even if the person who took the photos originally didn't even care about it.
That's also why I'm mostly neutral about the tracing thing, because people who do that grow up their own skills next to that and eventually move on from this and from my point of view, making someone feel bad to the point of quitting something they used to enjoy is really the worst just for the sake of "justice" no matter the legality. I sometimes feel like some art communities (like deviantart) are a field of jealous people in a race for popularity.
On the fair/unfair thing, I'd just ask, who are we to decide who deserves subs and who don't? It's totally independant of anyone's control and everybody has their own requirements. That "art patrol" thing sounded totally rude to me and an unproductive idea, you don't get anything positive in controlling what people do.
But educating them? Hell yeah.
Saying that, I don't support people who plainly steal stuff from others of course, I just wish people would just stop being dumbass to get a small moment of fame.

Dude, remember this is the internet. Some people won't ever sugarcoat whether you like it or not sadly. We have to get used to this. I wasn't even trying to be rude??

And the thing about "art patrol" has been already going on in all art platforms even like amino, I think art patrols do their best to educate people on what needs to be learned and not to the point of being rude. It's just going on as still for justice. And I understand this won't necessarily happen here in Tapas because I am rather happy this isn't a dramatic website, educating people nicely is good as you said. But I am rather quite a little sad that some people over here aren't prepared for harsh and rude comments that happen commonly in the internet.

Regardless, Tapas has their own rules which even applies to this so it's common sense.

Sad to see you want to dismiss conversation because I don't agree on some points of yours?
I just point the fact that nobody should want to control others because of their own sense of justice and I despise every little group who claim to shut people down (because it always end like this even if it starts with good intent) just for that "justice" thing that only represent their own egoistical ideals.
Not saying that's your case, but your phrasing can easily get in those sort of ideas.
I'm also glad Tapas and all others art communities have their own rules wich is a different thing than "art patrol" to me and I'm not sure what is the thing about sugarcoating you're talking about.

Not really sad for me, I love taking breaks every once in awhile and not continue arguing over and over just to change someone else's mind.

I do admit I am bad at explaining at times but I am fine with anyone not agreeing on my opinion, I am here to share mine and you're here to share yours and I am not here to control anyone by force but only just sharing my thoughts and suggestions which I have gotten experience from the rude part of the internet. And I didn't say anything to "shut people down", my intent was to teach people what the legal thing is, no intention to demotivate but encourage people to continue doing their work (in the legal way) with their own choices.

Again. Just to let you know. Art patrol has already happened in a number of art communities such as aminos. Some people take it as a sign of learning and some would take it a negative way. And their intention is not to shut people down.

Sugarcoating because do you expect people to like spread positivity all the time on artworks and comics? There are other people out there who does otherwise and nothing will stop them from this whether its their intention to correct or criticize or not. I don't want people to control people either but people like this will always exist. You gotta deal with that.

Uhhh In the first place the post didn't say anything rude and even said "I am sorrry" a few times. Tho all of us are entitled to their own opinions and sharing their thoughts on tracing, it's alright

I respect everyone's opinions but we should know the facts first. I also have an amino account and I have art patrols contacted me already a few times and so far there, they were just educating me on the art rules nicely and they were pretty kind.

Only things to look out for are other people out there who aren't even art patrol people and can be harsh/rude/demotivating/trolling which I have experienced in deviantart.

I think Art patrols are a group of people that were chosen carefully to monitor art being posted but they are not people who are chosen to shut people down immediately (only will do so if the user disobeys the rules countless times) but rather educate people (kind of like in a strict way sometimes)

Then again, this site doesn't need an art patrol imo because generally everyone is following by the rules and keeping it cool. If someone does a mistake we are all here to remind them regardless of not having this "art patrol position"

Only need these in communities that are rather dramatic and very stubborn. I am loving Tapas so much because everyone here is civil and simple.

At the end, just continue doing what you love and do what is right with your common knowledge

Nah it's ok, I didn't see this as arguing but explaining different opinion because every case is different and saw too much witch hunting on diverses platform taking big proportion, the step to shitstorm is really easy. I didn't mean to make anybody change their mind as well as I don't defend tracing. Sorry if anybody felt like I was in some aggressive speech 'cause it was really not the case.
I'm not on the sugarcoating stuff (not sure how you end up thinking that lol), but mostly on the self-moderation instead of jumping at people. Simple thing.
