I used to have a small Windsor & Newton Cotman watercolor box, and through the years I upgraded it into a bigger box as I purchased fine colors that I felt I needed or that some friends recommended me. I mainly use a pointy brush made of Kolinsky sable plus bigger ones for the larger washings !
I saw from your DA you have great skills in digital painting ! Do you also paint traditionnaly ?

Oh my! ;w; thank you so much for responding!! Ooh! I'll have to keep an eye out for Kolinksy sable brushes. Can you get them at art stores? Or are they only available online? Thank you so much for being patient with my questions. I paint traditionally sometimes, but my current brushes are cheap 0.50 cent ones so they clog up easily, which makes more precise colorings/shadings that more difficult .__.

Yes, old-style painting can be very relaxing, and I find it more gentle to the hand/wrist (I am sure I have a very bad position when drawing with my tablet)

In my experience, for watercolors, when you've gotten yourself the right equipment, you're halfway there. Two things are especially important, in my opinion : good paper and a good brush.
A good paper to paint would be at least of 300g (140lb) - is that the kind of paper you already use ? It is quite expensive paper-wise, but it really makes a difference!
Kolinksy sable brushes are a PAIN because they are so expensive, especially the very pointy ones! They range between 10 and 30$ for middle-sized ones, depending of the brand, I think ? But that's a very good investment, it won't loose much hairs over time and you can keep one for several years. (and you just need one, all your brushes don't have to be that expensive)

^o^ Thank you so much for your helpful advice! I found this very informative! I've asked other artists in the past on various websites about their suggestions on watercolors or painting in general, and they either didn't respond or gave me 1 word answers :c

Ooh! Happy coincidence! I do have 300g (140lb) paper!...I should start using it more XD But it may not be as good as yours, since I spent $15 on a pack for 12 sheets, sized 16x12 inches. But, thanks to you, now I know what kind of paper to look for so I can keep an eye out when I'm replenishing art supplies.

Oh yes, I do find myself agreeing with that. Kolinksy brushes sound like at least looking into, which I will definitely do! Not losing brush hairs is a big winner in my book :'D I can't tell you how many times when I'm painting, I'll come across 6+ hairs strewn about the picture ;A; And yeah, they sound expensive but if they're gonna last a good few years, won't lose any hairs, and give me the ability to add more execution in illustrations, definitely worth for what they're priced :'D
