I just did the feedback survey and had some really cool ideas that I want to share with everyone. The below is what I wrote in the survey, copied directly from there with some formatting changes.
One part of Tapas I really like is each user having a library that can be viewed by the public, I sometimes use it to recommend to my friends and look for what my creators reads when I've finished all my current ones. However, this functionality is very bare bones right now (we can't even change the sorting order when viewing other people's library) and I feel like this is a missed opportunity. I would like having a dedicated section on my profile where I can choose stuff from my library to display, like how Goodreads have their shelves system. I imagine this would be used more by creators, to recommend comics they think are good.
TLDR The next paragraph is an anecdote about another website that managed to stand out in a crowd of other websites that did the same thing.
I remember back in the day I used to frequent torrent indexers, and for a really long time I simply bounced between indexers since they were all the same in my eye. Then I discovered KAT (KickAss Torrents). KAT was not the biggest or most stable indexer, but it was the only one that I had registered an account for and revisited regularly (even when I wasn't looking for a torrent). The reason? The community. KAT was different in that it felt a lot more personal. The website gave you badges that are displayed on your profile if you logged in on special days or did something special and users made unique and interesting comments that weren't just 'thanks" or "virus".
I think KAT is very similar to Tapas in this personal aspect. Creators often interact with their readers far beyond than just the comments section. Readers could post directly onto creator's profile and so can creators. Like the other community features on Tapas, this is very bare bones right now and I'd like to see more features.
Some ideas:
Creators (or just anyone) can send artwork to others that will be saved in an area in the profile and can be displayed to the public, rather than be drowned as more posts are made to the profile like the system is currently. This can be a way for creators to reward top ink supporters, or a longtime subscriber of their series.
Have badges for reaching certain milestones in number of series read (may need a system to prevent cheating/abuse), number of genres tried, number of creators supported, number of series with less than 100 subs subscribed to.. etc. This should help with discovery for indie creators as there is an incentive to doing it. Badges are also visible on the user's profile. The more things that gives badges the better, because it won't feel like a chore doing the same thing over and over again, grinding out a few badges. I think Audible's a good start for this kind of system, though their number of badges is a bit low.
