Is it allowed to make a comic by using a game?

I saw that there are some users who use games (such as sims 4) to make their comics and I am wondering if that's permitted because most authors here work hard on drawing their comics and it might be unfair for these creators.

I am somehow interested in creating a comic like that and I want to be sure that it's allowed.

and another question, do the other comic artists feel bad when seeing comics made with assets from games, comipo etc. even though all of them were used legally ?

It's not a matter of being fair or unfair to artists, it would be a matter of legality. You certainly wouldn't be able to switch on ad revenue for a comic made from game footage. You'll have to check with the staff to see if it would be allowed under the site TOS, but I'm guessing it wouldn't be because you probably don't have the rights to use Sims content in that way. Something like Comipo is different because it's designed for making comics.

I don't feel bad when I see comics using 3D character models, but I have little interest in reading them because they don't appeal to me aesthetically. I'm especially not interested in something using assets from a game or other property that doesn't belong to them, because I prefer content people created themselves.

I mean, using sims or something as a reference; to draw (or trace) from seems okay to me in the sense that there are some very famous, very overrated comic artists in the industry that are far lazier than that. I mean, I guess it can even be useful, if you can get the pose right, to have something to draw from.

Just screenshotting and adding text though? As people have said, there's copyright issues and you wouldn't be able to profit from it (not easily anyway). Besides that, I just think it's boring. Sims doesn't have very nice graphics imo, and it couldn't really pass for comic art in most cases. Like, if you really wanna do that, at least trace over the image and recolour, make it look a little nicer.

Here's an analogy: if I work really hard at sculpting a sand castle by hand with windows and stairs and details, and someone else just packs sand in a bucket and overturns it a bunch of times to make a sand castle, then yeah mine takes a lot longer, but my castle is gonna look better in the end, so I don't feel like the other guy using buckets is unfair!

If that's the castle he wants to make then more power to him! But I couldn't get something that looks like my hand-sculpted castle using buckets, so I don't feel any resentment towards him for using that method.

Using game models seems kinda unfair to the original creators of the game who made the models. The original artists would receive no compensation for usage of their own work, it sounds like minor art theft to me.

I'm not fond of comics using ripped 3D models/comipo because those 3D models often lack the fluidity of 2D artwork, or even of decent 3D cartoons. 3D models in comics just usually look really stilted to me.

I feel cheated when I find out about it honestly, especially being a 3D major it makes me annoyed people assume all 3D comic work looks unoriginal. These things flood the market and it's just unappealing. If you really want to make a 3D comic make your own assets.
