So, I've been saving up for an Ipad to purchase Procreate because I've heard it's a nice app for digital drawing. I've been stuck with IbisPaintX for quite a long time— I love the app though it lacks some features. Since I have the money to buy an Ipad now, is upgrading to Procreate a good idea? Do other creator considers to use Procreate for their comic?

I already heard opinions from YouTube but it is still a different story coming from those people who actually uses the app for their comic.

learning curve to procreate, yes it good for making comics, but procreate when you do typing of any kind on the app it form it own text layer which makes it harder/limited on procreate;

because there a limit how many layer you can do on procreate. I only used to to sketch/plan out the comic, because heavy load stuff wouldn't do well on it, though it might be due to gb amount ipad I have,

Procreate is worth the money when starting out.

I use Procreate for the great majority of my comic art: sketching, inking, flatting and shading are all done there. The only things I don't do in Procreate are additional textures, color adjustments and lettering. While I could technically do everything in Procreate, I'm just so used to the way masks and color adjustments work in Photoshop that I can't bring myself to do it elsewhere. Lettering is definitely much easier in CSP or Affinity than it is in Procreate, tho.

I usually work on an A4 Canvas at 300 dpi and I try to keep the amount of layers I use pretty low (not that I ever used many to begin with :sweat_02:). If needed, I merge some layers before exporting to keep the file size down. Overall, best money ever spent, I barely even find myself using Photoshop to draw anymore since I got Procreate

I use procreate, it's fun to use, I made comics with it It's takes time getting used to procreate so if you keep on practicing Procreate is a cool app to draw with

Thanks a lot. Now, I won't be worried whether it's worth it or not.

Short and Sweet

If you are ok with a more organic approach to making comics, Procreate is baller.
If you want/need structure and a ton of control, I'd go with ClipStudio.

I've used quite a few programs over the years and Procreate is the one I've found the best workflow for my comic. I'm a bit more organic with my layouts and don't bother with measuring everything up perfectly and if you are ok with a bit less structure Procreate is fantastic for comics. Not saying that you can't measure with Procreate, but it's not nearly as easy as Clupstudio or even Photoshop, or Affinity Photo/Designer is.

I really like both CSP and Procreate, and though Procreate has its hard limits, I've found them to be more helpful than hindering. The layer limits keep me from having 100s of layers for every page that I have to organize and click through to find what I want when really all I needed was like 8 layers. The limits mean I have to trust myself a bit more and often this means accepting what I have and moving forward over making dozen of variations and being stuck on one panel for days. Its saved me time and helped me feel more confident since I can only be so extra when it comes to effects and layers.

It freaked me out at first to have any kind of limit whatsoever on my comic, but it really has been a good thing for me. I really like the way pallets are laid out and easy to adjust by a variety of means. It has all the tools I need for my comic too. Clipping masks, editable brush settings, color pallet editing, layers, Auto select & lasso tool, multiple modes of export, resolution settings, and text tools (Not the best, but they aren't bad for comics), and fun stuff like auto speed paint recordings and automatic paint bucket tool for reference layers (by far my fav feature).

I have found that a good companion for Procreate is AFFINITY Designer, they have fantastical text tools and easy resizing tools for comic pages. Affinity stays having sales so you can often get the program half off but like it's totally worth the full price as for a Vector based art program that can do what it does is very cheap.

I'm not an artist but I just wanted to say that THAT is the most clever art app name I've ever seen.

I thought it was super clever too, and then I was talking to a friend about it and they were like...that's a weird name for an art ap, and then for the first time I thought about what procreate means and I couldn't stop laughing. It's hella apt though and I can't think of it being called anything else XD.

I just wanted to share I bought a Ipad pro 4th generation and I'm waiting for it.

I have heard Good things about Procreate but I realize I'm not used to the interface yet. I will end up buying clip studio app if I dont' like Procreate.

Procreate is a one time fee of 10 dollars compared to Clip Studio app which is 2.09 a month.

When you buy your Ipad Pro let me know what you think about it.

Like everyone else has said it depends on what you are looking for. I split my comic page work between three programs. Procreate for sketches/inking(where I have a non-comic day job it's great for portability as well), Paint Tool Sai for coloring and Photoshop for text and bubbles.

I know my way is not the most streamlined but the main thing with all these programs is that they are not visually overwhelming for me. Procreate is the right amount of functionality for what I need without visually and mentally overwhelming me with its UI. If that's an issue you also have procreate may be worth a try.

I say all this as someone who does single page updates. I don't know how it would handle a scrolling page if that is how your comic is going to update.

Can't even speak on behalf of Procreate...I have it, tried to do stuff with it twice, and called it quits. Picked up CSP for the iPad...

Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I might as well consider the ClipStudio and get to know all possible alternatives.

I feel you too. Procreate was introduced by my die-hard apple fan friend to me and was eager to make me join the apple ecosystem. And after one video of artist using the app, I feel in love about the app. That's why I was considering buying an Ipad and use Procreate for my comic. I'm just a little worried whether it is good fpr comics or just good for single drawings and the like. But thanks to these good souls who take their time and share their insights of the app, I might as well really consider using the app as my main drawing tool.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Actually, that is my main concern because, I know Procreate is one great app when drawing or painting but I just don't knoe whether it's good for comic making. Thanks for sharing how you make yours as well.
