Exactly... everything has a reason.
1. The way Tapas works makes small creation almost impossible to be discovered. Iām not sure what is Tapas official view on that, but if I were in their shoes, I would probably keep it that way.
2. Creators want to share works they pour so much work and emotions in. And not all creators are marketing geniuses or even social beast, so promo dump is an easy way out (even though very ineffective, they still help getting that moment of joy when having a new sub)
3. Forum gets invaded by emotionless promo thread that kill the feeling of an engaged community. I generally just check latest threads in my free time, and itās mainly promo threads, and hardly any interesting subjects, so I check less and less, to the point that the forum loose interest.
So ideally, Tapas should support small creators to get better exposure (assuming they have an interest to ease exposure on creation they will gain very little from)
Creators should probably be more creative in their promotion. That could even make link dumps actually interesting. Some general netiquette as proposed could be a great way for that. Other forums also have some specific guidelines for newcomers with behavioral requirements before they can post anything. Not very welcoming, but it eases the onboarding period.
And finally, to keep a genuinely engaging forum, non-promo thread should be better exposed. Adding stickiness using a weighting factor could help get to that result.
But again, I think actions should follow that logic: Tapas to ease exposure, then actions to help (force?) creators to do better promo, and ultimately actions to help dealing with remaining promo thread to make sure they donāt swallow the forum interest.
Killing promo thread is taking the problem the wrong way I think...
