Here's my last day. Some kind of fanfictionish take on Beauty and the Beast, my favourite Disney movie <3
Day 30: Disney/Pixar characters
Belle hurried Phillipe to run faster. She wanted to get far away from the castle. She had tried but now she had had enough. Sure, she had gone to the West Wing after being told not to, but she didn’t mean any harm. She just got curious. Wasn’t it just a normal reaction to get curious about something? Beast has told her to get out and she wasn’t going to question that. She’d leave and never come back. She felt a bit sad about leaving so suddenly because everyone in the castle was so nice to her. Apart from that one person… But now she wouldn’t have to worry. She’d get home and she’d see her father again. He’d be overjoyed for sure.
Wolf’s howl alerted Belle from her thoughts. Phillipe slowed down and felt tense and nervous.
“Come on, let’s go. We have to hurry,” Belle said. Her heart beat faster and she looked around. The howls sounded louder, and they were approaching. Then from the shadows of the trees two wolves appeared. Phillipe reared in horror and Belle grabbed tightly on his mane to stay on. Phillipe’s hooves stomped the ground and he darted into gallop. The wolves ran immediately after them and more appeared from the sides.
They ran to a field of snow with the wolves trailing behind them. Then suddenly the ground cracked, and they fell in water. Desperately Phillipe tried to swim forward in the frozen water and get back to ice but it kept breaking under his weight. Belle shivered in the cold and hoped that they’d get back to land. And they did. Bravely Phillipe carried brought the all the way to the opposing shore and continued their escape.
“You’re a great boy Phillipe,” she said patting the side of his neck. The suddenly two wolves appeared in front of them and Phillipe reared again. Belle lost her balance and fell to the snow. She watched in horror was the wolves started to circle around her horse who couldn’t escape. It tried to kick the wolves away but there were too many.
With shaking hands Belle grabbed a big stick she noticed lying nearby and got up. Her fingers felt stiff and numb and she was shivering from the cold but she swung the branch at the next wolf that attacked them. She hit it in the head and growling the wolf retreated but three more seemed to take its place. Belle felt like her heart was in her throat. She swung the stick again but this time the wolf caught it and shattered it into pieces with one easy bite. Another wolf attacked her and managed to grab her cape and pulled Belle on the ground.
“No!” she shouted. “Phillipe run away!” she said to the horse but he refused to move. Phillipe tried to keep the wolves away with his hooves.
A wolf approached Belle, growling furiously with teeth bared. There was nothing she could do. She couldn’t run away. When the wolf jumped, she just closed her eyes expecting the pain but nothing happened. Then she heard whimpering and a furious roar. Belle could barely believe her ears. She looked up and saw beast, hunching over her growling at the wolves. He then charged forward driving them back, throwing them against trees and defending Belle against these beasts. But he took hits too. There were just so many wolves and they managed to bite him and scratch him. Despite this Beast continued to protect Belle. And finally, after all the wolves had ran away, he turned to look at her.
“Be…,” he started but then collapsed to the ground.
For a few seconds Belle hesitated. This could be her chance to get home. Beast wouldn’t come after her, she was sure of that. But she couldn’t leave him there after he had just saved her life. She had to help. It was the right thing to do.
It wasn’t an easy to job to get Beast on Phillipe’s back but somehow Belle managed it. They started their slow walk towards the castle. It was hard to see anything in the snow, but Phillipe seemed to know the way. Belle followed his lead trying to ignore the burning pain in her legs and fingers. She couldn’t help but wonder if she could even make it back to the castle before her legs just froze completely. But determination drove her forward. Beast had just saved her life; she wasn’t going to throw it to waste. And she had to pay back. She had to help too.
After what felt like forever, they finally saw the castle silhouette in front of them. Almost immediately after walking through the gates, lights lit up along the path and front door swung open before they reached the steps.
“Master, you have returned!” Cogsworth exclaimed but fell silent when he saw the group. “M..mmm..master? What has happened?”
“I need to get him inside Cogsworth. Can you help?”
“Y..yes of course. Lumiére! Come here immediately! Mrs Pots! Hot water and towels!”
Belle didn’t really know what a clock and candelabra could actually do to help her carry the beast inside but she didn’t really get a chance to find out either. Beast seemed to come to although he still seemed very weak. But at least he could walk when Belle supported him.
They had settled in front of the fireplace. Beast was slouched in his armchair looking like a wounded animal, side-eyeing suspiciously at Belle who prepared to tend for his wounds. The fire warmed them both and thawed them from the freezing snow and coldness. The wounds didn’t look very deep or serious but they’d have to be cleaned either way.
“This might hurt,” she said while soaking a towel in warm water. “Please, stay still.” She pressed the towel against the cuts and immediately Beast growled and pulled his arm away. The servants moved several steps away from them.
“It hurts!”
“I know. But we have to do this,” Belle said. She pressed the towel again on his wounds and this time got a roar as a reply. She closed her eyes but didn’t back off. “Stop that,” she said sternly.
“This wouldn’t have happened if you didn’t run away,” Beast muttered.
“Maybe I wouldn’t have ran away if you hadn’t scared me like that,” Belle replied.
Beast looked at her from under his brows. “You went to the West Wing even though I told you not to.”
“Still you shouldn’t get angry so easily,” Belle retorted and lowered her eyes. “I’m sorry,” she said. “You got hurt because of me.”
Beast didn’t say anything but huffed loudly.
“Now please stay still,” Belle said then. She wiped the wounds again with the towel but even if it hurt, Beast stayed still. He couldn’t help the growl.
“Also, thank you,” Belle said focusing on the wounds. “You saved my life.”
Beast turned to look at Belle who met his eyes. There was sadness in her brown eyes that moved Beast’s heart. Maybe he had been too stern to her. Maybe he had overreacted slightly. Maybe she didn’t mean anything bad. Maybe…
“You’re welcome,” he said with a raspy voice and turned his head away then. He felt weird warmth in his chest. Something he hadn’t felt in years and years.
Belle smiled softly as she continued to wipe the claw marks clean, making sure they’d heal properly. Her touch was gentle and soft and Beast noticed he was following her every move.
The servants observed the situation with small hope growing inside them. They had never seen their Master look like that. Despite his appearance he looked almost gentle and it was all thanks to that young girl.
