My weird ramble about movie monsters I know. These topics aren't getting any easier
Day 25: Classic movie monsters
I havenāt watched many horror movies or movies that have āclassicā monsters in them, so this was a pretty tough one. And I think this is another I talk about my experiences type of post because I canāt really come up with anything else. I donāt know enough monsters to come up with a nice piece of fiction Iād like.
So pretty much the only classic movie monsters I know, or more so remember are Dracula, Frankenstein, King Kong, Godzilla and Mothra (thanks to Godzilla) and the Mummy. And even then, Iāve only seen maybe one or two movies from each. Iāve read Dracula and Frankenstein as books and they were really nice. I liked them a lot. But as a movie Iāve only seen I, Frankenstein and Frankenweenie but Iām not sure if that counts. It was a cute movie though. At this point, knowing how good the Frankenstein book is, Iād probably just be annoyed by any Frankenstein film that doesnāt capture the same feel and story that book has. And sometimes books are better left as books. I donāt think any movie could do the book justice it deserves.
Dracula movies Iāve watched a few too, one older one, maybe Bram Stokerās Dracula and then the new one that has Luke Evans as Count Tepes (Dracula Untold). I actually liked that one quite a lot, and not just because Luke Evans is a handsome actor >///< . Iāve also watched Netflixās Castlevania although I didnāt finish it. I quite liked it. I wasnāt a very big fan of Dracula in it although I really like his backstory. But that Trevor Belmont and Alucard are some very fine characters.
And also, Iāve seen Leslie Nielsenās take on Dracula, but I very much wish I hadnātā¦ Parody is a genre that I donāt really like. Itās usually way too over the top for my liking. If itās subtle and clever, Iām a very big fan.
Iāve seen one King Kong movie which I also liked. It had Jack Black in it. It was a nice movie too. I really liked the relationship between the woman and King Kong (I donāt know any character names and I barely bother to search them, Iām lazy today ;-; ).
My knowledge on Mothra is completely restricted to some pictures Iāve seen online and the Godzilla vs. Mothra movie which is also one of the two Godzilla movies I remember watching. I may have seen more but I canāt remember. Kaijus arenāt really my thing and I donāt know much about Mothra but I like the concept. Itās a big moth. I like moths. I think theyāre pretty and nice as long as they donāt come too close. Iāve seen the trailer and some screenshots of the new Godzilla movie and Mothra looks really good from what I can see from all the darkness in the films. They need a big light for him.
The other Godzilla movie Iāve seen is the one where she goes to New York. I have to admit that I donāt remember much about it, but I have a positive feeling. Iād probably watch it again if it came on tv even though I doubt it was a masterpiece. Probably just a good film to watch as an excuse to have popcorn (not that you need any).
Iāve had so many opportunities to watch any of the Mummy movies, but I just havenāt. Iāve seen parts of most of them but the newest one with Tom Cruise is the only one Iāve watched through. And it was an entertaining movie. Not amazing by any means but it was cool. I liked the backstory of Ahmanet and the whole concept of Tom Cruiseās character becoming Seth is really cool. I like all kinds of mythology things so pretty much anyone can pull me in by showing some stuff relating to ancient gods.
This was a very weird ramble and I donāt really know if it even has a point, but this is just the only thing I managed to think for todayās topic. And it was actually quite nice trying to remember all the films Iāve seen. Iām sure Iāve missed a few and Iāve probably forgotten some monsters too but since they usually tend to be horror movies where these monsters appear, I donāt usually see them. Although these monster movies rarely are even very scary, more on the drama or action, maybe even comedic side depending on how old the film is.
