Finally giving into the temptation to look at him, I rolled onto my side and studied his expression, unsurprised by the pain etched into his brow or the bitterness in the twist of his lips. Strangely, I didn’t find his words menacing. Even though he was directing them at all of humanity, I knew somehow that he didn’t mean me. “What did he say?” I asked, feeling suddenly as if the top of the cliff had become a bedroom, our voices low and intimate like lovers sharing secrets from one pillow to another.
Chuckling a little, Yun Seo shook his head. “Nothing.” He drew a breath through his nose and released it. “He didn’t say a word.”
“That had to be hard. To say all of that and just walk away without getting anything in return.”
