Learning new things about your character as you go or sticking strictly to the script (how often do you change/add things to your story as you go along?)

Even after all the planning I did for "A Dozen Morning Glories" some new nuances showed themselves the minute I started writing chapter one. I already knew that Essence tried hard to keep from upsetting people through certain methods I can't spoil lol, but not until writing chapter one did I start designing the intentionally (and forced) passive ways she's tries to speak being almost timid to keep from seeming bossy or abrasive. It would be a sort of overcompensation if she succeeded, but does not lol.

I've been learning more about the characters in "A Dozen Morning Glories" as time goes on, specifically a lot about Dominic and Cocoa. Like the fact that Cocoa is a plant mom, and their little "Miss Cloud" thing they do whenever Cocoa is in a bad mood, which I personally think is super cute, and I can't wait for people to see it in the story.

My siblings are basically my writing team, so they help me add interesting traits and ideas/additional things to my characters that are really fun, unique, or help them to become more complex. More brains is almost always a big help lol

For instance, it was my older brother's idea to name the villain of my comic Mick, Miss Nosey, now spelled "Nozie."

When I first started writing "Crystal Blue" I didn't have as strong a concept of what the male lead would be like now. Then I just imagined his unique posture and mannerisms into a scene I was plotting out between him and Mora, the female lead, the way he would try to look her in the face but it always only lasts a fraction of a second, despite him being cheerful and friendly, and the rest of his details have stemmed from there. He's a very kind and personable person, though he's usually pretty introverted, but he never really makes eye contact with anyone for very long, no matter how comfortable he is around them

I originally thought Therese was much younger than she was, but the more I wrote the story, the more I realized that she and Verner were definitely teenagers in the 60s. They were already immortals lying about their ages, but just HOW old they were I only realized recently.

yes, this woman is 76 years old

I just keep diverging with Crystal Blue honestly. I had plot points, but when I sat down to create character profiles for the leads, I ended up developing a lot more details that made the characters a lot more complex.

The problem is I'd already started releasing chapters. So then I had to figure out how to smoothly incorporate these new ideas into the story

I have the basics of my characters down ,stuff like eye color, height ,birthdays etc. With each chapter I’m learning something new about them. For example my character Coostaark isn’t a huge fan of the deities in my novel The Old Ones or how another Naaririel has come to enjoy becoming more and more human. I find it more fun this way ,getting to know what their likes and dislikes are,what makes them tick.
