Let's talk about tropes

How do y'all feel about tropes? And what's your favorite trope?

Personally, my favorite trope is Chekhov's Gun, if for nothing else than it gave me the idea to put Chekhov's Gun into an old story of mine as a literal Chekhov's Gun. That being: a gun of unspecified make and model that everyone spends the entire book chasing until it's revealed to actually be a useless Macguffin all along.

I like them? I guess? Don't really have a favorite though. Except maybe "Surprise, Bad Guy!" (Don't know if it's actually called that.) You know, where for no immediately explained reason, there's a new opponent for the main characters to fight.

Tropes can be fun if you know how to use them! There's a lot of tropes I'm a bit fan of. Power scaling is a really fun trope so long as it's not overused and I personally love playing with different types of dopey hero tropes.

I don't really feel anything about tropes in general, they're a tool for creating fiction after all . But if you were asking about how I feel about certain, tired and... (cough) overused ones. That's a different story. The current comic I have, literally tackles some of typical romance tropes that I've seen a bit too many times.

As for one my favorites that I can think of from the top of my head? I'll say, villains siding with the good guys. I get annoyed at good guy turns out bad, but I don't mind the opposite for some reason, but they should have a good reason for siding with the heroes in the end of course.
