If I said it ounce I'll say it again, budget doesn't change something from being bad, you can't throw money at something for it to be good.
In example the God of War voice actor for Kratos was ill for some time, the waited for him to get better before continuing, yet they could have just paid for someone else they had the budget.
Shang-chi was directed by a hawaiian, some of the older comics character jokes couldn't be put in, because new generations wouldn't understand it would be seen as strange or ".wrong"
(Also I'm interested on what you mean, he can't write women, I thought all the girls were great though there weren't many. I'm not done yet no spoilers).
It's not about Netflix wants, they didn't know Umbrella Academy would be a hit, sure it was popular but you would here the alternatives are underground comic readers talking about it. Now you can find a typically guy off the street mentioning it.
Umberlla acemdmys comics storyline is way cooler, but the shwo is it's own thing and its good as well.
Also I didn't really mean Western I meant in general, I'm excited for the One Piece live action, I feel that comic/manga fans hold very high standards.
Marvels works so well because yes the story and visuals are killer but most of it's fans didn't read the comics, when I saw Ant-Man movie I was like "humm shouldn't there be more Iron Man?" Old man Logan even annoyed me, I'm sorry it's called Logan, because those comics were soo good, but the movie was just as good in it's own rights.
I don't know when people started collectively believing anime/manga only works in those retrospective forms and nothing else.
Fun Fact: chainsaw man is heavily inspired by western films, he just using the manga as a medium.
Marvel is loved over seas, I'm sure jokes are lost in translation there as well, shouldn't stop anyone from making something great.
I'll say it again, Speed Racer and Scott Pilgrim killed it. Ghost in a Shell was great, and Alita Battle angle introduced me too the anime which is now in my top 10.
