Allo, folk! I'm Sky/Shortwave Radio, an aspiring comic creator. So, to get straight to it, I'm looking for someone to help me with this comic idea I've had for years, and make it actually happen. More specifically, I'm looking for an illustrator.
Comic Idea/Overview
So, what's the idea? Well, it's kinda hard to explain, but I'll try my best. It's basically a webcomic, where each episode is a graphic poem, or a graphic version of a short story, basically, a poem or a short story illustrated. The running title I have for it is "Flashpoint Catheter", cookie to whoever knows where that came from. To explain furthur, the poems are going to be expressed thru characters, some of whom I already have an idea about. They will vary wildly in tone, since the characters will vary in, well, character.
Some of the character ideas include
- A paranoid, depressed schizo (more horror/tragedy like)
- An angel who lives in the forest (more wholesome)
- A ghost of the city (depressive)
- A gay couple (varies in tone)
Artstyle I'm looking for/How I want to work
To get this out of the way, it's unpaid, I don't earn enough to be able to pay, this is just a passion project.
The artstyle I have in mind is something that isn't too detailed. Something simple, but cute, with colour and vibrance. More playful with texts and imagery, than detailed. Also, the characters are anthropomorphic animals, so it'd be best if you draw, well, anthro animals. Not really furry stuff, more on the cute end.
The way I want to work this is a collaborative effort. Not really just 'I write, you draw'. That'd lead to something really stale, in my opinion. I want to make this a mixer of ideas. What do I mean by that? Well... the roles will 'mainly' be I am the writer, and you are the illustrator, BUT the way I want to approach that is as follows:
My plan is that the poems aren't entirely driven by the poems themselves, there'd be 'interlude' or passages where there are no text, where the illustrations keep the story going. Basically, the poem acts as the soil and seed, and the drawings make the flower grow, from the seed. In other words, the poems are there more for narration, as the drawings guide the episodes. So, to achieve that, the process I have in mind is that I write the poem, with an illustrative idea behind it, and then we discuss it, and reshape it until we have something we both are happy with, and then the illustration happens, so that the process is more 'all hands on', then 'I do, you do'
Do I have unreasonable expectations? I guess so, but if anyone is interested, comment, and we can talk about it.
