I thought I should add my thoughts on people asking for free artwork.
I think it’s one thing to make a post labeled “please donate a cover to me,” but you should know some artists are a bit offended when you ask for a cover in a post, but then specify you will not pay.
To me, it’s kinda like thinking you see a job listing, then seeing “volunteers wanted only” in the description.
Also, be certain you understand what you’re asking for. A cover made by me takes 16-20 hours total of research, sketching, and rendering. That’s at least 144$ of work, if I was paid 9$ an hour. (Just a bit more than minimum wage.)
Are you comfortable asking for 100-300$ dollars here? No? Why are you comfortable asking for free art, then?
This isn’t to call you out or shame you. But just to help you understand why you should be careful in how you make these posts.
Next time, make it clear from the title you cannot pay, and offer SOME kind of recompense. Like, you’ll read their story or promote their art on your page. That way at least the people who are practicing their skills will have some reason to work with you.
