Looking for suggestions for professions of characters for a pulp fiction style tale

... that is set in the 1930s... and will involve LOTS of monsters... so far I have a wannabee journalist... it's late and I can't immediately think of anything else! It would be useful if the skills that they have could come in handy in a scrape!

get a writing pad and a pack of playing cards! this is a fun way of choosing characters details and works with more that just jobs. write down job titles on the pad and next to each assign a playing card. when you have a big enough list or gone through the full pack of assigned cards. shuffle and draw one card for each of your characters, the rule ..this is fate what you draw they get! no redrawing for something better! enjoy!

1930s? Well, they could be lots of things! Is your setting urban or rural?

Anyway - they can be factory workers, railway employes, aerospace engineers and airplane builders, they can be lab techs, they can be office workers. They can be department store employes, they can be newspaper hawkers, they can be farmers and street vendors and barkeeps and waitresses, actors, singers, sailors, bakers, cooks, telephone operators, etc.

Really, most jobs we have today they had in the 1930s - the level of technology was just different than we have today. Some jobs have disappeared, but honestly, you can just make up a character to suit your story and unless they're, like, an app-developer or an IT-tech, I'm pretty sure they have a job that existed in the 30s.

You should probably choose something that is easily researchable--- Anything that's not like a factory worker etc, probably has something to do with that character's interests or past or family and such, and if a character has a profession the artist knows nothing of IT SHOWS. Like I made my main characters hobby to be pressing plants ---- I have spent HOURS researching different plants and their history in herbal medicine and languages of flowers in different countries and who knows what else bullshit for like two lines of dialogue.

I've read so many published comics with like "researchers" who do nothing in the comic except stare at amoebas every now and then, etc. It is so cringy....
