Losing some subscribers is normal, right?

I draw a comic that got featured in the daily snack a while back, and I know it's normal to lose some people after the 15 minutes of fame. The subscribers plateaued at about 930, and then I went on hiatus over the holidays.

I recently started posting again, but now it feels like I'm losing more people than when I was inactive! It tells me more people are subscribing, but that means even more are UNsubscribing if the number is still going down! T.T I'm telling myself its just weeding out the casual readers who decided it just wasn't for them. But it makes me discouraged.

I was gonna enable tipping when we reached a certain point, though is it cocky to do that now? Should I wait for it to plateau again?

The sub loss happens to everyone I'm afraid. It's like the number forms a flimsy pile and the breeze keeps knocking the loose ones free, but that's just the strange way things go around here.

I hit 930 and then struggled for months to get passed it. And there's nothing wrong with activating tipping.

Enable tipping. There are still subscribers who aren't leaving and would be happy to help support you with tips, regardless of dwindling numbers.

And yes, I think it's pretty normal. Ever since I was featured in New and Noteworthy/Staff Picks, and my sub count shot up, I've been losing readers pretty steadily. I almost always seem to lose more than I gain each update, despite gaining an average of 15 new subs each time. It can be very discouraging sometimes, but I also don't want empty subs. I don't want people who aren't interested in the comic or flat out don't like it to linger around just so my count stops dropping.

It feels bad to see people unsubscribing. But overtime it'll just settle down, and what you'll have are the people who really do care for your series. Numbers don't really count, people do, we don't make content for the people who aren't interested, we make them for our fans and because we love it.

Yeah....I really wish people would stay subscribed. I'd have 100 by now, but nope.

It's totally normal!
And people naturally unsub after an update because they are reminded the comic exists and doesn't interest them anymore or something happens in the latest update that they don't agree with.

Yep, I got featured once, and the next time I updated I lost 80 subscribers _(:3 」∠ ) _
My subscriber count finally settled after ~3 months... It'll pass, as all things do.

It happens to everyone I'm afraid. In my case lots of people subbed to my comic despite my warnings that it was violent and had crime themes, and then when the protagonist was giving someone a vicious beating they couldn't handle it. I lost a good few subs for that scene.

Of course, things pick back up. Heck, I had a complete stand-still of subs for a while and now I'm gaining new subs daily!

I can relate. I loose subscribers a lot too (even though I never was in the daily snack), I find it very demotivating.

from personal experience this is very normal. I've had 3 comics featured on daily snack and subscriber loss has been a normal occurrence for all of them.

Don't look at the sub count, though- it doesn't exist where you're going.

It's also possible this is part of some weird bug that shows more people are subscribing than there really are or w/e. I recently plateau'd at 6.3k and its only until recently it seems as if I got passed that. The way i think of it is that you got your big & easy promotions - now you have to do the heavy lifting of promoting on your own in order to get more readers...

and just enable tipping! It's not cocky or anything, you never know when people want to toss you some money and it's more convenient to have it handy. no one is gonna call you out for having tipping enabled.

Yup! Totally normal.
Just continue doing what you're doing. You're focusing on the wrong group. Always keep in mind the people that are there for your comic, not the ones that left.
