As others have said, the orange light (night mode, warm mode, whatever) is usually helpful. Like you, it doesn't cut it for me though. Nothing has solved it 100%. And turning down the brightness has it's drawbacks. I found out that buying the lowest grade reading glasses at the dollar store helped with my eye strain quite a bit. I've never worn glasses in my life till now. But of course, if you don't get eye strain reading a printed book as well, this probably isn't your solution.
Always remember to see an eye doctor now and then, kids.
Oh, also I'm not sure if it's been mentioned... but don't work in dark rooms where the light of the computer is your primary source of light. Turn on a lamp or something. Balance that light out.
And a friendly note on the special "computer glasses"... be careful where you spend your money, a lot of them are complete crap. Even the ones that actually help are not a miracle fix.
