Hey all,My story is something I wanted to give to my students for a while now. I currently teach 7th graders with Special needs in Sudbury Massachusetts. I created this book for them because I sense a lack of relatability and representation in other characters for them to connect with in young adult and children’s literature.Four 12 year old middle school students develop a friendship in the Skills Academic Support class at their school. Each student has their own challenges—Shelby grapples with emotions, Daniella with dyslexia, Ethan with ADHD, and Austin with Autism. After being bullied for needing the support class, they jointly participate in their school's annual Academic Competition to try to win. However, Shelby struggles to keep up with the pace of school and preparing for the Academic Competition, leading her to become hospitalized.
