So, here's my story: I'm 18 years old, but I've never been to school. I was homeschooled for a lot of my life, but there was a huge gap, about 5 years, from twelve to 17 where I got basically no education at all, and that obviously set me drastically behind. I'm trying to catch up now, and managed to get from sixth to about 10th grade now, in about a years time, but it's still a struggle. At about age 15 I realized that I was definitely going to be in big trouble if I didn't try to acquire some sort of skill for myself that would make me valuable in the world, otherwise, I would just be eighteen, with very little education, and be basically stranded. So I started grinding, and teaching myself to be a good writer so I could have SOME sort of job experience/credit to my name by age eighteen. I'm eighteen now, and I'm still studying to get my GED and TRYING to get a job, which is crazy hard without even a diploma. So yeah, I really am trying to find some way to start making money, so if I could get 100 subs, it would really help me have a little bit more of a fighting chance.

My story is something I wanted to give to my students for a while now. I currently teach 7th graders with Special needs in Sudbury Massachusetts. I created this book for them because I sense a lack of relatability and representation in other characters for them to connect with in young adult and children’s literature.
Four 12 year old middle school students develop a friendship in the Skills Academic Support class at their school. Each student has their own challenges—Shelby grapples with emotions, Daniella with dyslexia, Ethan with ADHD, and Austin with Autism. After being bullied for needing the support class, they jointly participate in their school's annual Academic Competition to try to win. However, Shelby struggles to keep up with the pace of school and preparing for the Academic Competition, leading her to become hospitalized.

For me, working on my story has been a taxing and long journey. 2 years in the making, 3 additional ones behind the scenes. I am the exact opposite of a workaholic, y'see, so making it has always been a struggle of mental fortitude.
ADHD brain, y'know?
But sometimes you just gotta keep trying. The process may suck, but it's the goal that matters!
