Need help to color this

I have lots of difficulties with coloring backgrounds Some info:

*This is indoor, but I want there to be some light from a window (aka the light is the shape of the window)
*The desk and the plate under the big book are wood
*The papers we see are not all the same type or color

Please help!

if you have Clip Studio Paint you can try out the 'colourize' option: you paint blobs of colours here and there, and then when you colourize it, the image gets this cool watercolour ish effect (I dunno if you'd like that, but if you don't you can always use the colourize option to get an idea of what colours you'd like on the piece)

on top of that you can do a layer put on screen/lighten/overlay maybe? and then lasso tool the shape of a window (the light) and it should lighten the area effected :>

I would love to use colorize, but I don't have CSP

The details are amazing, it is a very beautiful image to color. Since there are lots of stuff going on in the image have you thought of big masses of color? What I mean is that most stuff remains in similar shades. and just some stuff gets accents of color.

For example, most of the image can have lilac, and burgundy tones and the shape of the window can color the stuff in warmer tones like oranges and salmons. This kind of illumination based on opposite colors give images a pop.
