Hi! I'm San, I joined a little while ago but I've spent most of my time since just lurking and trying to figure out how to smoothly slide into this community. Still not sure I've figured that part out, so I'll just introduce myself here in the meantime.

I mostly write, I also art -- both traditional and digital -- though I don't have a comic of my own. More recently, I've been honing my flatting skills, and would definitely like some tips on actually finding some work doing just that, which is part of why I joined here. I've got the flatting itself down, but I don't quite know where to start with the paid-work-part of it, so I'm hoping some kind soul can maybe point me in the right direction. Thanks, good to meet you!

Can't really comment on this whole "getting paid" thing, but I can welcome you to tapas!
Welcome to Tapas!

Hello  I'm also really new here. Like a few days old.

I'm sorry if I also won't be able to help you with the flatting job bit. Hopefully, there are others here who can help you out with that.

we can be awkward and new together. nice to meet you!

Hi there! Welcome to Tapas!

If you're looking to find work here in the forums, it can help to make a collaboration thread.

First, you have to state in your title if this is PAID or UNPAID (in your case, it will be PAID).

Next, it's good to show examples of the flatting jobs you've done before. Showcase your abilities.

How fast can you flat a panel vs a page?
How clean is your flatting?

And mostly importantly -- what are your rates per panel vs per page?

These are some important things to think about

Hello there, welcome to the community.

I have no idea what flatting is so sorry I can't help, my English is not that advanced, but good luck with your collaboration works.

You might want to read these first tough :

Sometimes people post on Twitter/ Devianart or even here in their Tapas accounts when they need flatters so follow artists and companies you might want to work with.

Also you can visit your local cons/ comic related events and ask some local companies if they need flatters or how they get hired, you lose nothing.

This guy has some really great tips for both working as a colourist, and improving your colouring techniques.

Thanks for the advice! Yeah, part of my issue is that I'm just pretty new to the comic community in general, at least to that extent -- I've always been more casual about it, and I kind of feel like I'm just sort of awkwardly here. But I'd like to get into it more. And honestly, I've never done a flatting job for someone before, though I have plenty of examples of what I can do and have plenty of experience.

As for rates, I'm not sure what the usual rates are, to begin with. I've seen everything from $5 to $15, so I'm not sure what to ask for. My flatting is clean, I'm very particular about not having a single pixel out of place  as it is, I spend around 2-3 hours on a page, depending on how detailed it is, etc.

Basically, I'm a lost child when it comes to the actually-working-and-getting-paid side of it all, so I'm stumbling around as I learn. Your advice is very helpful in terms of what to keep in mind, I really appreciate it.
