Occult Detective genre

So, after surviving the corona fever, I am back at home from hospital. Even though I feel extremely weak and depressed, unable enjoy anything, one thing that I am enjoying is writing a lot. Not sure why but I have been writing more than I used to write before the sickness.

Anyways, today I have planned out the entire outline of a new novel that I am planning to write. I actually wrote the first two chapters too!

I really have nothing else to do now lol No job, no work. Bed rest.

Sorry for all the blabbering. Kek. I am feeling pretty lonely. That's why I am talking too much.

Let's get to the point again. Sigh.

The genre of my new novel is....well....occult detective. I was wondering which genres should I use as my primary genres on Tapas. Should "fantasy" be the main one? Or should it be "mystery"? There are some actions and drama too. But, mainly a blend of mystery and fantasy. Heavily relying on black magic, amulets and ESP powers.

As for the genres, I’d say mystery as the first and fantasy as the second (or action/drama). Unfortunately, there’s no supernatural genre which might have fit your story, if I recall correctly, only the first genre will show up in search result, so the secondary is not really as important

I see. Then, I should use the mystery genre as the primary one. I'm a bit reluctant because of the fact that........ Mystery section of Tapas seems pretty low on popularity. Is it me or is that really the case? Maybe if I put it on a less competitive genre like Mystery, it might get more views due to less competition? Or will it be the opposite?

Yeah, some genres are more popular than others so it’s an interesting question. A popular genre might get more potential readers, but a less popular one might have less competition, so more people will find your story. Personally, I’d go for what fits the story the best. But you could always change the genre later and experiment a bit if you want to!

Okay. You are right. Thanks! I will then post it on the mystery genre. Now I need to draw the goddamn book cover. Who knows how long it will take xD I'll try to just give simple sketch and get it done with it.

I also have an occult detective story and it was hard to classify it on Tapas since there's no supernatural section. From what the choices you're debating on, here are my observations:
Mystery- Very small genre here in Tapas, not many people go through it but the small number of titles makes it easier to stand out if you post consistently enough.
Fantasy- Arguably one of the most popular genres in here with a ton of eyeballs on it, however it's very difficult to be seen when there's literally thousands of other titles in it.
Horror- More popular than mystery, but less crowded than fantasy. Lots of supernatural comics get posted here, though they lean more toward spooky or action-y when they do
