Italian by osmossis, my step-mom raised me Italian... what can I say.
but yes, I think we all need to present a united front on this kind of abuse. I have a killer attorney, entertainment guy with a thirst for blood, mild mannered otherwise but man...
I tell people over and over "you cannot NOT afford an attorney" when it comes to contract etc. I was the prelim contract person at my old audio drama job in addition to staff writer. I'm the one who went through contracts before it went to the attorney for fine tuning
one day we got a contract stating "all of " my boss's writings, copyrights. ... in perpetuity.
I believe the blue air around the building still hasn't cleared.
Unfortunately my boss and co-worker were so focused on the contract being for "rights' to sell produced work they missed that this contract could claim rights to a freaking grocery list written by my boss. I literally had to explain the word "ALL" to them. (I wrote an article about copyrights and divorces so had lots of research under my belt)
There was a heated exchange. Which got even hotter when I explained that "in perpetuity" meant he was selling his children's inheritance down the river.
I screamed at my co-worker. I nearly threw my pretty pink stapler at him. I ended up storming out of the office... yes I slammed the door... and walked out into a freaking snowstorm. I swear the snow melted before me.
They had ever seen such language come out of this mouth. they finally agreed to call the attorney.
Guess what he said.
I really should have gotten an Oscar.
