I don't even have a Twitter, but I know a lot of people are overreacting. I don't know how my family is going to act about it when they get home. I know my mom is going to be very upset about Trump being president.

For me, the scariest thing is that so many people wanted and voted him in. I know that either way the US is going to get through it, they're not incapable of dealing with hardships. It's just disheartening that so many agreed with his hateful and fear driven campaign.

I don't think people are overreacting when they say they are legitimately scared for their friends or family who are not Straight White Males.

A Trump win validated the people who voted for him... and all of their agendas. And if anything happens to Trump, we have to deal with Pence-- someone who believes miscarried/abortions should have funerals.

It's probably because I'm not in the tank for either of them, but what do people expect to happen? All I see happening next is another 4-8 years of nothing but arguing and blocked proposals. They're not gonna wind the law clock back to 1800, that's just silly and Congress wouldn't allow it

I don't think they realize how high our taxes are compared to theirs... plus depending on where they go we really don't have a stable economy and many people are out of work. It seems stupid to come here to Canada and leave a job to come to a place where you may not have a job or end up working at Tim Hortons (Not dissing them, they have great coffee and you can move up management). I mean, yea come if you want to, but... don't expect it to be any better... Again this depends on where they go, or so I hear.

@Alamino Believe me, the people doing this aren't doing this out of logic or reason. It's just the "grass is greener on the other side" kind of thinking. I don't think they did all their research. Perhaps some did, but considering how the Canadian immigration site crashed, yeah... I'm going to say it wasn't thought out for most people.

I'm going to have to point out the obvious that if your running from Trump, Canada won't be far enough.
The States has always had a strong affect on the Canadian economy, Canada will feel the effects of this election too. For example, any new trade regulations coming from the States will most likely be detrimental to Canadian trade and business, just going off the few things Trump has said on the subject. And it wouldn't be the first time that bias regulations hurt our trade, the lumber industry has been hit a bunch of times over the years.
But as for if I think people will make the move, I want to say yes, but only time will tell.

Well, if people are serious(and not just stomping their feet), I find all this talk of mass migration to Canada a bit funny now. If it happens and it's a large enough amount of people, and if everything @Alamino says about the current state of Canada is true, then wouldn't Americans just be causing a Canadian migrant crisis that will eventually lead the country to vote in favor of solving it? They'd just be creating a future Canadian Trump . What's the plan for the next mass migration when that happens?

Plus hopefully the housing market will go down from this and my husband and I can get a place.

The results brought in a Republican President-elect, with a Congress that is now controlled by a Republican House and a Republican Senate-- the idea that all three branches are the same and have similar views, scares a lot of people. The fact that we had this under W. Bush and it swing again like this, so quickly, is alarming. What does that say about the climate of the people in this country?

What about his nominations for the Supreme Justices (4 seats are possible to open under his term)? Will those nominations be progressive? Student debt crisis, knowing his past in the for profit sector-- those students will not get any debt relief any time soon. He has mentioned getting rid of Obamacare... a lot of Republicans feel that way too. Efforts to address Climate change? Pfffft. Hoax. It's a hoax remember?

(^^He's in charge of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works BTW... wants to ban same sex marriage... y'know. Small stuff).

It's what he (Trump) represents and damage being elected could bring internally and internationally.

But, if this thread really is focusing on if people are willing to leave the country... I'll just leave it at that then. Just saying that if people are considering it because of fear of the current climate and what it may become, maybe we should listen and not be so quick to dismiss their fears.

People made a choice others didn't like, thats always gonna happen. Whether we like it or not we all worked to make that choice. We have to live with it.

An egomaniac president is bad enough, but the president does not control the nation all that much. It's THE REST of the government we are scared of. Republicans now control congress, majority of governor positions, and they get to replace a supreme court justice. They are about to get shit DONE in a way we have not really had an opportunity to see. The problem is, their policies tend to adversely affect those who don't support them more than they benefit those who do.

A gay couple getting married in no way affects a straight couple, but they are adamant about banning gay couples because THE BIBLE. It benefits absolutely nobody. Involving religion in a classroom setting does not benefit a person of that specific religion more than it alienates those who are not a part of that religion. I was bullied in middle school for not identifying myself as either Christian or Jewish like the rest of my classmates IN A DISCUSSION ABOUT HOW GREAT AMERICA WAS BECAUSE OF RELIGIOUS FREEDOM AND DIVERSITY. Now imagine if religion was preached in schools. All it does is validate one religion while simultaneously putting down all others, not to mention atheists.

I grew up in a conservative family. I watched Fox News for years. I used to agree with them on certain things. I see where they're coming from. But the fact of the matter is that the biggest issues they tend to care about are issues that DO NOT actually affect them.

And the worst part of all of this, going back to the topic, is that the people who so badly want to escape this reality are likely not going to be eligible to move to Canada no matter how badly they want to. They are likely too poor or not educated in the fields the Canadian immigration system favors. Some people will leave because they can, but the rest of us are stuck here while our homeland changes drastically. And it's going to change. A single party controls everything right now, which many people here on Tapastic have never witnessed in their lifetime.

Personally, I have wanted to move out of the country for years but simply can't afford to. All the election did was make me more desperate to leave. I'm sure a lot of people are in the same boat.

I don't know much about politics, but I do know that Trump is racist, misogynist, an idiot, and a fool. He's everything a president should not be.
I'm not in danger. I'm on the other side of the world.
I can't imagine how people in America are actually feeling right now.
