Opinions! Is this drawing good?

Hey! I used to draw more anime style when I first started doing art. But at the time there was a stigma in the community that anime was "lame" and that it didn't show talent. Which I know is not true. But I stopped for a while and leaned more toward semi realistic.

I have finally realized how much I love drawing anime and have been practicing more and more. I have a couple sketches and one finish one that I am curious about. I love the sketches. But once I added color into the finished, I like it, but I feel like maybe it is subpar. Can you give me your opinions? Do you like it? Would you follow an artist online with this style? Or read a story with this style?

Definitely. This is good, don't worry.

I used a base color and then I used a multiply layer with an airbrush, and I used the same base color on the multiply layer. And I used the airbrush for some dark shading at the edges of the hair and then I used a studio pen brush to do the clearer lines around the hair. Then I did the same for the highlights, used the same color but on a screen layer and used airbrush for the softer highlights and a harder brush for the more precise highlights.

Yes I think the art is good, if a little generic looking. I think the only qualm I have is with how the ears are drawn from a front face view. There would be a line separating the ears and the face because of where the ears are positioned on the head. But other than that, the art is well constructed and the colors are nicely done.

I had that line at first and debated if it needed to be there or not. So thank you for bringing that up! I will make sure to think about that next time

Your linework is strong, but truthfully, the coloring is weak because it flattens the figure rather than emphasizes the form using light and shadow. It kinda looks like you chose the light source to be coming from the right hand side, so, I might try adding some shadows like this (I did this quickly so excuse the messiness but I think you get the idea)

That being said it's certainly good enough to start making a webtoon if you have a good story, but if you want to improve your art, study lighting and shadows!

Thank you!!! I'm glad that you got the idea of where the light was coming from. I did do a bit of airbrushed shadow on the neck, cause I know you are supposed to do hard lines for shadows when it is from an object and soft lines when it is shadow from the form of the object. And I was thinking the light was coming in slightly lower on the right side. So the neck shadow would be more from the form not from an object blocking the light. If that makes sense. But I wasn't sure about the shadows on the other side of the face! I didn't even think of that. Thanks!

They're all very nice! Something I'd suggest is adding more variation to the line weight. A slightly thicker line which widens and tapers at points brings so much more life to a drawing. It also helps mask slight uncertainties in shape. Hair-thin lines like these demand perfection in a lot of other areas, such as shape language and anatomy, otherwise the drawing can come off as wonky/stiff.

Also, going by the sketch, if you're not practising figure studies, you should definitely do that. It'll help make your figures and your shape language more organic.

There are no problems at all with the style! You should work in the style which brings you the most joy. If that's anime, you go for it!

I did vary line weight in my linework. However, I don't like it to be too dramatic.

As far as the sketch, that actually was a figure study. And after I finished the initial sketch I put it over the reference and made sure everything was in the correct spot. After double checking that I refined the sketch without it being on the photo. But I also know I still need to practice figures and anatomy more as well as poses! Thank for your input!
