Passing along your quirks to your characters

I can't be the only one who gives their characters quirks that I happen to have, right? Which of your characters has some interesting habits or quirks that come directly from you?

The protagonist of my webcomic Heroes of Thantopolis, Cyrus, pants or breaths heavily the same way I do - with my tongue out!

Also, although it might not come up in the story, Cyrus struggles to open boxes like I do. Seriously, when I'm opening a box or an envelope, I just rip it to pieces! I can't open them cleanly...

Another character from my comic, Trickster, gestures with his hands a lot. I do this too. Goofy hand gestures for emphasis! You can see the one I'm doing in my icon, but here's Trickster:

Do your characters have any quirks that you also have? Did you pass them on to your characters consciously, or did it just happen?

I have a few close female friends and we call eachother by some bizarre names, ranging from muffin to lemon drop(mostly food related)... so out of habit when I'm with a guy friend I'll say something like "so shortcake, what do ya' wanna do for food?"

It gets mixed reactions, but my point is I always like to have one character in a story obsessively use pastries or sweet foods as nicknames :')

Edit: There are other more passive traits like a character always having to sleep against a wall etc, but the nickname one is very notably me. ahah

I usually create quirks for my characters that aren't related to me at all.

I guess a couple quirks have been passed on to various characters. I have a thing about smells sometimes where certain smells are very acute to the point of distracting. So I felt having a keen sense of smell would suit my character who lives in the wilderness.
Another thing I passed along, mainly as a social commentary thing, is my sad inability to deal with eating food with bones in them. I know I'm a bit backwards but I never really learned how to eat things off the bone. So I chose my most suburban character to have that same stupid trait. Don't worry she gets over it later when hunger compels her. One day I will too lol!

I guess my character Louis, who is a germaphobe, kinda represents my own disgust of germs? Only, of course, I've exaggerated the quirk in the story, to the point where he gets really neurotic about touching things and people that he always carries a disinfectant with him and makes sure to wash his hands every chance he gets.

Ha ha! I like germaphobe characters! They are always good at making things awkward and funny!

My main character isn't much like me when it comes to personality o.o I am vary docile and a bit timid while she is more laid back. The only thing we have in common is that we are both short females and look younger than our actual ages xD So we both deal with short girl problems.

I've had several protagonists in the past who shared my lactose intolerance or cat allergy (the latter of which i've outgrown) :B

Demetri's overprotectiveness of his cousin is an exaggerated version of me towards my brother when I was that age xD I had a habit of steering my brother around by his shoulders, which is what Demetri sometimes does with Isa. it's in my future thumbnails.

When I was younger, I had a habit of walking/standing with my feet pointed inward; I haven't gotten a clear shot in the comic of the characters walking yet, but brother twin sometimes walks like that.

Demetri's traits were consciously put in, drawing from my experience as an older sibling. I know feet pointed inwards is body language for shyness, but the connection to me is more by coincidence.

The cat allergies and lactose intolerance in my short stories are usually just because, haha

Closest I have is Alvin has rubbed his neck a few times, which Håvard argued nobody ever does in real life and it's a stupid anime thing, which is why he didn't want it in there. I do it all the time though, so I guess I'm just that anime.

Oh Also Håvard will pace around in a circle when he's thinking as if he were a cartoon character and I will definitely add that trait to a particular character in Grapple Seed, not saying who though, it's a secret shhhhh

I'll just say that Human Daniel of chapter 1 of my comic is basically me...if I were a guy in the 1930s who's into girls. XD Mannerisms are a lot like mine too, save for maybe the smoking.

My characters tend to have some common Selfish Manipulative Asshole traits, which is a little worrying.

Hmm...quirks. It's hard to say without some kind of spoiler haha En has a lot of my speech patterns and verbal quirks. A lot of the blunt, sailor-ish, and borderline sardonic things she says and will continue to say are things I would easily say in real life. We both hate the smell of cinnamon. We both like to learn. We both like knives. We both bark out orders...We're both part of the itty bitty titty committee loll

A lot of the traits I give to my characters are given organically. A lot are also given consciously~

Jack:
-has inherited my emotional constipation, hahahahaha. I tend to keep everything to myself and then blow up at someone later on.
-sibling relationship. I based the dynamic between Jack and his twin a little bit on my sister and I. Our fights have tense silence a lot. XD

Sarah:
-red lipstick. I LOVE RED LIPSTICK.
-love of rock concerts <3
-going somewhere alone to be emotional. I often go somewhere others can't see me.
