Payed Ad's on comics. Is it worth it?

So I've made it my New Year's resolution to reach near 100 subs by the end of the year. Which means it's one step closer to getting paid ads on my comics. But now that I start to think about it, Tapas is still an up and coming website so they may not offer a lot of cash on hand.

This question is mainly for people who already have 100 subs and have paid ads. Is it worth the trouble or is the whole thing just not worth it at all?

Don't know what you mean by if it's worth the trouble as you can just leave them be once you unlock them and collect the profits every once you earn magical 25$ that can be withdrawn
As of how much you can earn with ads - I've got around 4.7k subscribers across 3 ongoing series and I'm making around 2$ each month from ads on tapas

it doesn't really ad extra work.. so it's not like there's any trouble involved

you probably won't make it ot the 25 neccessary dollar for payout with 100 subs, it's really more of a starting point.

but I only recently unlocked ad rev.

if it helps to put it into perspective:

I had 800 Ad impressions this month (not every view on your comic counts as ad impression) which boils down to 5ct in ad rev!

So does that mean the money get bigger as your series progresses? I usually end up getting around 400 view in total by the end of each month. And that's from doing a lot of promotional things in the threads.

Well, the bigger your following is the more views your episodes get - ads get more views as well and so you get paid more

when you have, idk, 40 episodes out, and get a new reader, that will give you a lot more views, then when you have 4 episodes out.

so yea, it'll grow with time.

and with 100 readers, each update will give you 100ish views as well

I mean.. you probably won't make a living off of ad rev. so don't focus too much on it to only see your readers as numbers.

you should still have more gratification by interacting with your audience, and sseing people enjoy your work... from what I've seen in other finance threads, the income really happens through different means.. and several sources simultaneously at that.

Having a lot of subs does not guarantee stable finances, and low sub counts don't hinder it. If you are good at hunting down commissions, you can do art full time even if you have a small amount of subs. If you have a lot of subs but don't know how to keep them engaged or you dont have products for sale that are attractive enough to purchase, then those subs are useless from a financial standpoint (of course they aren't worthless in general; having eyes on your work is incredibly valuable if tha…

Not really, certainly not at 100 subs. I've earned... one tenth of a cent so far, over two months, and I have nearly 200 subs.

Ad revenue is only worth anything if you have tens of thousands of active subscribers. Opening it up is more like an achievement medal than anything.

If you want to make a living making comics, ad revenue is a tiny drop in the bucket. Your best bet for stable income is offering things on Patreon, and taking commissions on the side. I hold down a stable teaching job on the side two days a week, which pays for my essentials, so part-time work separate to comics is also a good option!

I have like a bunch of ad impressions over the years I've been on here and my ad views have earned me a whopping...18 cents? So I wouldn't stress out about ad revenue.
