Photoshop comic dimensions?

Hello everyone!
Aurelius here after two whole years

It's been a while since I've been to the forums but I wanted to get some input on something I've been struggling a bit with..

I plan to make my comics in Photoshop (Which I am completely new to and still messing with) and I've done some research on what other artists use in terms of dimensions and dpi though I come up with mixed results.

The main thing is that I want to be able to have it be a size where printing wouldn't be a problem in the future although I also don't want it to take up too much storage space on my computer. At the moment my Photoshop app has been a bit laggy but that is an issue I plan to solve soon.

300 dpi is the standard for printing.
When I did pages in autodesk sketchbook I always worked in 600 dpi,
that doesn´t make the quality better but it gave me a better feeling in case I want
to print it in a bigger size or have to resize anything.

I work with photoshop too, I have a mac m1 and it´s still lagging like crazy,
I watched tutorials and fixed settings and it´s still lagging. Other software like
clip and sketchbook work fine

I work in DINA4 600dpi
I chose DINA4 because the euro comics I grew up with are drawn in that format.
American standard comics are smaller in scale

Personally I make my comic pages at 350dpi and A5 page size with a 6mm bleed. Generally 300dpi or higher is recommended for colour and 600 for black and white, especially if it uses screentones rather than greyscale, and if you have panels that "bleed" off the page, an extra 3mm minimum will be needed.

I'm actually currently putting the print book together and it seems to be coming together well. When making the Tapas pages, I scale them down to 940 pixels wide, spread out the panels a bit vertically and stack two pages to make my spreads read like a little more like a long scroll Tapas comic. I also personally lettered the tapas version and the print version separately; the Tapas one has bigger speech bubbles and lettering relative to the page, and the bigger vertical gutters on the web versions make that easier to do.

All of my pages are 4174 x 6322, including the bleed edges. When printed as a 10.25" tall book page, that's around 600 dpi when the bleed edge is trimmed.

Just because I've seen some confusion among artists about what the dpi setting does, that setting applies only to print. Pixel values are absolute. 1 pixel = 1 dot, always. If you increase the dpi or the measurements of an image, the pixel width and height will increase to match using this equation: Pixels / inches = dpi

If you want to know the exact measurements you need for printing a page, use dpi * maximum print size in inches = document size in pixels
