“On three?” Piper asked, not taking her sights off the view ahead.
SPAD groaned again, but didn’t protest further.
“One... two... three!”
Piper was off like a shot, tearing above the clouds.
SPAD yawned, giving Piper a bit of a head start before starting to fly. They flapped their wings a few times, catching up to Piper in less than a minute.
Piper turned her head to see her companion flying at her side. Letting out a grunt, she pushed harder, trying her best to pull in front of SPAD.
And yet she couldn’t. SPAD had been doing this longer than Piper had been alive; they were an expert racer.
Piper decided to fly into the city, hoping that she could lose SPAD by tricking them into flying near some skyscrapers.
SPAD noticed Piper taking a sharp turn into the city, and followed her. They had a good idea of what she was trying to do. So, they let themself fall back a bit, knowing that there was a much larger chance of them destroying something than there was of Piper doing the same.
Piper looked back at SPAD. “Ha!” she laughed. “You’ve given up so soon?”
She raced ahead, giddy with excitement. She was finally going to beat SPAD in a race! Or she might’ve, if she hadn’t crashed headfirst into a stand selling newspapers.
