POLL: Readers tell me, which do you prefer? Comics with color or in greyscale?

So I want to ask all my readers which do you prefer? Do you prefer what my coloring skills are now? Or do you prefer greyscale.

The average reader will always be more drawn to color.

BUT do what works for you. If coloring is very demanding for you, just do grayscale.

I like both honestly.

But It def depends on the skill level of the artists.

An artist that is lower skilled in colour will have their comics look MUCH better in black and white. It actually jarring to read comics with low level colouring skills, even though I can often read low level black and white much more comfortably.

So I'm likely to stop reading a poorly drawn comic if it's in colour faster than I would a poorly drawn comic that is in black and white.

I think it depends solely on the setting and locale. I mean, if your character(s) are in a medieval fantasy realm where colors are different than the norrm, it would be nice to include colors to toy with the reader's imagination. Same goes for exotic locations, like islands, jungles, etc. And especially if you're in a different universe altogether or another planet.

I love comics with color but understand the hardships faced to do the extra efforts.

As a reader, I'd prefer anything where words are less and the picture shows more.

I would do a poll but don't know how to do that.

my comic is in greyscale so i drift to greyscale comics naturally lol. once you start drawing in greyscale you really appreciate others that do it as well

Depends. Let me start by saying I would rather see a comic than not so if grayscale is needed for time constraints then by all means. That said Grayscale is best when a person's line work and inking is best and worse when it's simple or thin lines just acting to outline. If you want to do grayscale then I would recommend reading up on professional comic inking methods and styles to give depth and weight to the forms. I would also work on using the blacks to create shadow. It's difficult at first, I understand. But it's very rewarding once you really settle into it.

Very good insight. Either with coloring or greyscale there are pros and cons. Different set of problems for each one.

Agreed but even if you use color, ink like you won't Some advice given to me from someone more experienced in the professional field

Can you explain what you mean by ink like you won't?

It means don't skimp on the effort you put into the inking and shadowing just because you plan to use color. Everything should be done as well as you can. Some people just put the lines down thinking it'll be enough because they'll deal with the shadowing and giving it volume with color. But think of how much better that image could be if you put the effort into linework so that it gives all of that without the color. Then you add the color to bring it to life.

Basically, no half-measures

I generally prefer color so I voted that way (& I agree with an earlier comment that most readers will gravitate towards color as well) BUT It's not that strong of a preference tbh- I read plenty of black&white or grayscale comics as well~

I generally like both but I'll have to go with the colored version since love the color palettes you used for the characters
